Hi all! I lead a women's bible study. I am president of the women's minsitry at the church. I do the artwork and newsletters for Habitat for Humanity. I do grantwriting for non-profits. Basically if I see a need or if someone asks for my help I try to give it.

My big secret dream.....to make enough money that when I hear that someone doesn't have enough to pay their electric bill to anonymously go and pay it. Or to fund a project, or put a needy child through college. I want to make an impact in people's lives, but I don't what anyone to know its me doing it.

Starting Over, what a wonderful dream you have. I have friends who are wealthy enough to do just the sort of thing you talk about. I know, but very few others do. When I tell them how wonderful they are, they just smile and say, "It's what we do."

We are blessed to have people like you in the world.

Dotsie, it occurred to me on Friday that we don't have even a coffee pot in our shiny new waiting room. The people either use the vending machines or go to the coffee shop. I'm wondering if I can change that! Maybe I'll call the director of volunteers and see if we can do something about it, at least on Fridays.

It takes about 1 year of training for the Stephen's Ministry, then soon after I finished, my church dropped it. I only counseled 1 person and she had problems that were beyond my scope and they took me off the case. But I have used the training many times when I've had a friend in distress.

The most important thing I learned is to speak the truth in love. I'm not always successful, though.

I actually did that once! What a blessing for both parties! Since I did not know the family's account number, I was there when the clerk called the house and the woman (an acquaintance of mine) just could not believe it and cried. The clerk never did tell who paid both the electric and gas bill.

She still does not know to this day,but our Lord does!

I volunteer on our county Home Extension Club council as VP in charge of programs for the entire county. It's so much fun coordinating and planning these programs each year. I've done it two years in a row and have enjoyed it so much!

Di, what programs do you plan? I'm not familiar with a home extension club.

Daisy, so we're not the only church who dropped the ministry?

You will carry that training with you forever, I'm sure!

starting over, I like your dream. It's admirable, even though I'm sure you don't want the admiration...

My church is huge, 3000 regular attendees. We have our own counseling center and the care ministry is run through that. I chose not to do it because it was going to be mostly phone calls and I am better at one on one.

I was asked to volunteer in the Church's restaurant but there just is no time left in my life for that right now. I felt so guilty about saying no but I would rather do fewer jobs well, than too jobs half hazardly....Why is saying no so difficult?

Di - I love doing "anonymous" things like that - the payout is so much better when the person on the receiving end does not know. ::winks::

I enjoy what I do...right now I volunteer w/ Project Connect - a non-profit service of our church that helps repair and fix-up residences of low income families. I also do lots of volunteer work through my daughter's school - last project I have taken on is to design one of their reading/quiz competitions - I also teach journalism/creative writing as a mini-course to our church's elementary/middle school kids. That is a blast! And I teach 2's & 3's sunday school - which is fun b/c I have my son, Andrew in there.

I have found that when I give of myself and my time without expectation that those moments are some of the most influencing and impacting moments of my life. The people I meet when I am doing random acts of kindness or "anonymous" stuff are floored that a stranger even cares - that is so sad, yet so motivating to do MORE so that more people realize that there are people out there that really do value the individual...no matter what.

Volunteering is something the retired people do in our county. I always say we run the world while the rest of them work.
Church Vestry liason to Sunday school
Bazaar chair Christmas bazaar
Scrapbook Hope to gather members to help put our scrapbook together
Hospice Scrapbook-take pictures at functions and gather materials to put in it.
Faith in Action I take a lady shopping one day a week. We have grown close and look forward to our day.
Their are people here who work and volunteer too.
Reading over these posts its amazing what boomerwomen do isn't it?
