Itza...a warm welcome from "over the pond." I've had a love affair with England for many years of holidays there. Have very good friends in Beaconsfield, Doncaster and Christchurch. Have fun here and as Dotsie said, share with us what it's like being a boomer in the UK....post Beatles.

Hello Itza! Welcome to the forum! This is the perfect place to start your morning or end your day. I don't think there has been a day when I haven't learned something new.
My warmest welcome goes out to you!

Welcome Itza, would love to visit the UK and hope to before our son comes home from Germany. He'll be there through 2008 so we are wanting to go back to visit him and family. We will go to UK next time. I didn't care for Paris, I know I'm weird. I just didn't feel safe the whole time I was there.
It's a great group of people here! Glad you found us.

Ello Itza,
Gosh, you mentioned Mildenhall. I was stationed there from 1977-79...I lived in Thetford...went back for a second tour...this time RAF Upperheyford but lived in Winslow in a lovely 300 year old cottage...I still keep in touch with my landlord/lady...I miss England so much. My favorite tea is PG Tips...believe it or not I can still find it here from time to time...but I cannot find McVitties Chocolate Covered Biscuits...I'd kill for one of those. So, I have to make do with just my tea. On Saturday evenings I have an English Tea night...Alabama Public Television has old (very old) English shows from 8-11 and I watch them while having my tea...The shows are: Are You Being Served, As Time Goes By, The Good Neighbor, Faulty Towers (one of my favorites) and a wonderfully funny one...The Vicor or Dubbley...I always laugh in that one. When I was in England I bought an inexpensive, typical brown tea pot and still have it...it's about 28 years old now...I broke the little top that you place on top of the teapot so I don't use it anymore, but I have it sitting proudly in my kitchen as a wonderful reminder of a country I dearly miss and love. My local was called "The Devil in the Boot." We had some fun times there. It's closed now from what I understand and has been turned into a regular house. My son Ray used to ring the bells at the church in Winslow...he loved it. So many memories...I envy you at times...maybe one day I'll get to visit England again. Take care and welcome to truly a wonderful place with absolutely wonderful women.

Wow! Before I faint with the heat, I have to say that this was a mighty warm welcome which I wasn't expecting. Wow.
Thank you all for the welcome. I should have came here days ago because I haven't been feeling very happy and this most certainly would have put a smile on my face!
Anyway, I'm going to take a closer look at the individual replies to this post because a few of you have asked me questions I will respond to.
Take care, all
Itza

Ok, I'm back...
Pam Kimmell: I’ve not heard of Little Barugh so it’s probably nowhere near me. Yes, the countryside here is beautiful and I’m lucky that some of it is just a very short drive away.
Dianne: I’m from the North East about 40 miles south of Newcastle.
aquamarine: Hello fellow noob (newbie).
Fiftyandfine: Ah, now I know where on the map where Bury St. Edmunds is. Nowhere near me, I’m afraid but I’m sure it’s a nice place anyway. I’m glad you enjoyed the ‘cuppas’ over here. Yes, they haven’t gone out of fashion despite coffee shops popping up all over the place! LOL
Terri: Ah, Doncaster. We’re getting a little warmer now. I went to a nightclub there once! That was when I used to live in a neighbouring town called Rotherham. Your friends may know Rotherham.
Sherri: I’m sorry you didn’t like Paris. I spent my 21st birthday there, ooh, 13 years ago! LOL. It was lovely but I really wish they had fibre. Gave me tummy ache all that rich food!
Dotsie: You mentioned accents. I don’t really have one apparently. According to two people I’ve spoken with. See, where I come from, some southerners call us Geordies when we’re like 40 miles south of there but I guess there’s a mixture of Yorkshire and Geordie to make up our accent since we’re between both places. Anyway, when I did move to Rotherham (South Yorkshire) for 4 years, I picked up a bit of their accent. When I returned to my birth town, my accent became more neutral, that a couple of people, one completely local and one from Yorkshire just north of where I used to live, didn’t recognise my accent as being local to my birthtown! And the person who used to live in Yorkshire didn’t have a Yorkshire accent or a local accent and didn’t recognise the little Yorkshire I’d picked up. Weird eh? Accents – they’re so fascinating.
Dee: I like PG Tips, too! I’m sorry you’re not getting your McVities choccie fix. Did you like the Plain or the Milk chocolate ones? If we get to know each other well enough to swap addys, I’ll send you some!
Take care everyone and thanks again for your replies.
Itza

Hello Itza, How are you doing these days? My phone line was stuck by lightening so I was out of the loop for a few days. How are you doing on the other side of the pond? It's extremely hot here...and humid.
Thanks for the offer to send me CHOCOLATE McVitties if we become friends. That's a very sweet offer, but you really don't have to do that. I do miss them though. If you're ever in the Winslow, Buckinghamshire area, look up Turkey Farm...it's a lovely farm house and now it's a beautiful bed and breakfast...my landlord/landlady run it and I miss them dearly. They still rent out the 300 year old cottage I used to live in (lived there 4 years and it was so lovely)...Bridget and I chat online from time to time...we have to get our times just right because of the time difference. Just wanted to say welcome and we hope to hear from you again real soon. Dee
