New words: tenderness, abused, kindly, touch

I just want to say that my following poem is not just about using the above words; it comes from my heart.

I know so many of you have been abused,
Shunned, terrorized and misused.

I can only imagine what a heavy burden you carry,
You have all touched my heart, made it sad and weary.

Kindly I extend my sincerest feelings,
To all those that cope and grow in their healings.

Dear boomer sisters you have made all of us more aware,
You have touched many a soul, opened eyes, made us care.

With tenderness and sympathy I thank you for sharing;
For it’s worth it, if one child can be saved from such suffering.

Your poem is exquisitely compassionate, EW...and this photo is hauntingly beautiful beyond articulation!

Thank you Eagle Heart. Oddly enough writing poems allows me to express things more intensely. Does that happen to you too?

Can't wait to see what poems will be created for the photograph. I think you just inspired me to submit the photo in a contest.

Beyond the shallows the waves crash against the jagged rocks.
The roar of the ocean near deafening, the peaceful shallows it mocks.

My faithful friend gazes up at me, his love and devotion far from hidden.
He'd like to dash out into the surf but knows it is forbidden.

Instead we stroll along calm waters that shimmer, sparkle and gleam.
This vacation is much different than when we went fishing in a Colorado stream.

My dutiful dog was with me then, trout were all around,
Here there are no fish to catch, just that roaring sound.

We walk along quite peacefully, old dog, me, my cane and lucky hat,
Not sure where we'll be going next but for now this is where its at!

Ed3, I loved your tender-hearted poem. Loved your poem, Chats.

Whenever I see the love in her eyes,
It warms my heart and I realize,
How true and honest a dog's love can be,
It's purer than gold, I truly believe.

She loves strollin' beside me, along the shore,
And loves to splash in water, even more.
Rivers 'n streams, and oceans' grand shores,
Are her favorite places to romp 'n explore.

Play dear puppy, I love you so much,
I am grateful for your love,
and I cherish your touch.

Chatty your poem is beautiful; one of your best ones yet! Jabber, I bet you have a dog to write like that. :-)

Edelweiss3,
I have a dog that looks like the dog in your picture! She's a black lab and she loves the water. Her favorite thing is when
we take her walking along a beach, river, or creek. She splashes
and jumps and has even been known to catch a fish!

Oceon spray fills the air,
As I walk with my dog, Bo, along the beach.
I shed all burdens, I discard all cares,
As I release my friend, from his leash.

Sparkly waves catch the sunlight,
Like Bo catches my heart.
I never tire at the sight,
I never want us to part.

For my dog is truly my best friend,
Who can lift my spirits tirelessly.
He shows me there’s nothing that can’t mend,
When in nature we romp; Bo and me.

It’s the moments, when Bo shakes his wet fur,
And the drops spray like silver lights,
Those are the moments, mixed with azure,
That lifts my soul in souring flights.

Those are the times when nothing else matters,
Either money, future plans, or past woes,
Those feelings get washed up in the foamy lathers
As Bo digs in the sand and I wet my toes.

So when you are down and don’t know where to go,
Just close your eyes and imagine an ocean breeze.
Blowing softly around you and your friend, Bo,
Be one with nature, and then your problems will appease.

All of your poetry is beautiful.

May I add 2?

The "Wake"

I sit alone at the wake
It comes and goes
The ache
I wear black on the inside
It appears as if I have never cried
There are no other mourners at the gathering
No eulogies or songs to sing
The casket contains and is closed
To symbolize needs unmet
There are no flowers
The death of hope
Of saddest hours
This is a wake of solitude
A mourner's fugue
No pictures to surround the dead
Remembering....this is what she said
There are picture frames
Devoid of photos that should be there
Of a life where nothing was ever shared
Because the "murderer" (abuser) never cared
The lights are low
The funeral director quietly asks, "Are you ready to go?"
To take the journey..the burden...to lie it down
Uon your heart's hardened ground
All without one sound
The silent, dark procession of the soul
The journey to be whole
From grief...relief
You must say goodbye, I know
You didn't want to die
Unable to cry
Sign the guestbook
Take one last look
The funeral was over years ago
The tears, the pain and anguish...
Something you too well do know
The silent vigil you still keep
While wandering in your sleep
I must sit a little longer
And when I am ready
I will go
There is no one to stand with me at the grave
There was nothing
Which could be saved
Isn't it ironic that they call it
A wake
(awake)

On a Happier Note:

The Nightbird's Song

The nightbird
Not often heard
Sings her sweetest song
Just before the glorious dawn
That song resonates
While the Universe anticipates
And lingers in the air
It says I care
Your pain I will share
As her last sweet notes drift away
There dawns the day
Her concert done
She greets the sun
And flies away
Announces that the day has just begun
She returns at night in joyful flight
To her concert hall
Little being so delicate and small
At the precise moment
Her timing instictive
Exquisite
The darkened forest listens quietly
Waiting to hear it
What will she sing
The music to escort the dawn
To gently bring
All nature holds its breath
Waits to resonate with her
The ocean's roar
A kitten's purr
Stars close their eyes and wink their last
Tonight is past
The moon resigns and folds her silvery wings
Takes the mysterious journey to the other side of the world
The symphony of the soul
Is the one
Which only

The heart can see

Love and hugs to all, Alice

(I've written "tons" more, which aren't on my website, and plan to publish them, if they don't win any of the contests I have entered; some are in my memoir)

Hi Alice, welcome to our poetry group!

Both of your poems are excellent.

The way we ‘play’ here, is a poet writes a poem using 4 suggested words and in return the writer suggests 4 new words for the next topic. We have used words or photographs. Some interesting works have evolved from the same words. It’s really fun. We aren’t any big writers, we just enjoy fooling around with words. If you scroll up a bit, you will see a photograph of a man and a dog. Would you like to write a poem about that scene? Would love to hear what you say. smile
