Since becoming of age as a senior, I find myself feeling happier, more comfortable with myself anf less nagged by others and their problems. I cook whatever I want to, whenever I feel hungry. I sleep when i want to, get up whenever I feel like it. Watch what I want on TV, listen to my favorite music only. I actually turn my phones ringers off and let it go to Voice mail which I check when and if I want to returning some of the calls when I have time. It is so enjoyable not having anyones problems but my own to worry about or deal with. I did that when EagleHeart was here and missed seeing her. That will never happen again. So my question to you ladies who are Seniors too, do you think me selfish or finally smarter than before?

Chatty, I don't think it's selfish at all! There are things that we have to do, but taking care of recharging our batteries, in whatever way works for each individual, should be at the top of the list.

I think it’s a fine line between becoming a recluse or just recharging the batteries. Do all those wonderful things for yourself, but try to get out and mingle with people too. That is as important for the soul, and talking and laughing with others is a great recharger as well.

The times when I've made an effort to get together with a friend were definitely worth it, but enjoying the time you have by yourself is also a sweet sensation. Give yourself a goal of one or two outings a week with a friend or family member, and enjoy your time alone the rest of the week guilt-free.

Chatty, I'm new here, but I don't think you are selfish. I'm a part Sanguine Personality so I get energized around people, but I need and depend on my alone time to also recharge. I actually made a decision last year to allienate myself from all activities that I ccould so that I could finally concentrate on my own writing and speaking which had been sadly neglected. It took a while, but I'm certainly seeing and knowing I made the right decision to exclude myself for a time. I'm feeling more vibrant and on-target now than I have in a long time. I'd been so busy for so long consumed by activities that I didn't have time to focus on me. Sometimes the "me" gets put last and you have to go find "it" again.

Chatty,
I don't think you're being selfish. If you don't care of you,
nobody else will. Enjoy life. I've lost so many friends and
family lately, it blows me out of the water. You take care of you!!!!
