Little Things Are Big
My joy I find in simple things, Hummingbirds flitting and an ocean that sings... Beautiful landscapes in the shining sun... A warm, gentle breeze when day is done.
Viewing a clear, blue summer sky... Or watching the billowy clouds, as they glide by... Grass grown tall near a country lane... Smelling freshly mown hay, or the scent of rain.
Thinking 'bout homelife, so warm and sweet... Willow trees waving, or my grandchild's dancing feet... Good books for reading, in the quietude of day... Friends stopping, as they pass along my way.
Mostly I pray, for a God-lightened load, And for Him to bring love...as I walk a rocky road.

Can't DODGE the DEVIL -----------------------
I looked in the mirror, what did I see, a head of greyish stripped hair looking back at me.
Went to the drugstore and bought coloring - L'Oreal, soft brownish color like my natural, so no one can tell.
Blended in quite nicely, think it took off a few years, then why as I look at my reflection do I burst into tears?
Are they tears of surprise at what's in the mirror, or because my eyes are fading, and I can't see any clearer?
My luxurious hair has thinned and faded, so has the light in my eyes, I knew I was growing older but this came as quite a surprise.
My chin now has a helper, my lips are no longer puffing, my titties look like someone has stolen all their stuffing.
My can is' a draggin, my belly ain't flat, use to have a cute belly button but can't find where it's at.
I do have nice legs if you don't mind thunder thighs, my grumping can't be heard because of my loud sighs.
Whose the creep that invented the full length mirror, Bet he did it so we'd see ourself, and why people tend to leer.
Oh hell, why worry about how I age, as long as I do, any way I look above ground is a blessing so why stew?
I thank the good Lord for all he's given me in my life, and will take it slow and easy, avoiding unnecessary strife.
So here in Las Vegas where beauty is crucial and sought after, I sit here watching the young in the pool, and can't help my knowing laughter. Soon the time will come when it's their youth the devil will be after...

The Alternative
Okay friend, growing old is a bummer, I look at the wrinkles and sit'n wonder. My brain can't contemplate, the passing of time, It isn't funny, it isn't kind.
Inside myself, I'm fifty years younger, Wherever the decades went, it throws thoughts asunder.
But the alternative to getting older, Isn't easy to hack, isn't easy to shoulder.
So let's happily accept, where we are right now, And be grateful we aren't o'er the moon, With some agile cow.

High On A Hill
Here I am standing on high, high ground, 'tis the tallest hill, on the outskirts of town.
Looking north, the city skyline appears in view, A little to the west, I see windmills, More than just a few.
On this scared land, is where I was raised, And the people who fed and clothed me, Graciously earned my unending praise.
On this ground, beneath my feet, I've learned to give homage, For each'n every heartbeat.

Looking out the window at a sparkly afternoon sunshine splashing brightly rippling light into the room; fountain full of sparrows, and feeder feeding wrens, Squirrels hiding hazelnuts from chipmunks on the fence.
I watch and pray a thankful thought that God has touched my heart with sparkles of sweet light again to chase away the dark.

Thank you Jabber and Chatty. Kind words. I'd been in a bit of a down mood lately, probably because I've had a very nasty cold for almost two weeks now and haven't been able to get outside much. Hubby has been keeping the living room curtains closed to keep out the heat, and I was really being affected by the constant dimness. So yesterday afternoon I opened the curtains and let the sunshine in, and the poem came out of those moments.
