Why?

Poetry seems to mend,
The hurt of a broken heart,
And I ask myself, why?
What medicine doth poems, ever impart?

How can the art of rhyming,
Heal a hurting soul?
Can't seem to figure it out,
Though I'd truly like to know.

Can poetry heal pain, distress and brokenness?
It feels as if it does,
But that's only my opinion, I guess!

Poetry is an art, which puts you in a third demention
Similar to painting, or other crafts, too many to mention.

It allows you to focus on the here and the now,
It blocks out other thoughts, and lets in those you allow.

Just searching for words that rhyme, but still make some sense,
Is the art of poetry, in past, present or whatever tense.

Jabber my dear; Can poetry heal, you ask?
Yes, it’s a way to your soul, it’s a pleasure, not a task.

So just pick out a theme, and let your feelings just flow,
See your words bloom like flowers, that you have sowed.

What Warms The Heart

Love sunshine and the warmth of summertime,
And fuzzy puppies, make me smile everytime.
Love polite people, and strong, kind men are neat,
Love compassion and folks who are always sweet.

And I love hugs'n kisses, and bondfires in the fall,
Love God, good preaching, and I love you all.

Thanks Edelweiss, for the in-put 'bout poetry,
Thought, it was unwise to have so much sensitivity.
Thought I was being foolish, thought it was just me!

Just when I thought my world was quiet and serene,
am emergency happened that ruined the scene.

I was needed elsewhere to take care of a baby,
I said an absolute YES, while others answered maybe.

It boggles my mind how cold and unconcerned some family can be,
when others come forward gladly even when not related to she.

The Lord spared her life as far as we can tell,
I hope her attacker is punished going straight to hell.

Heres hoping this is the end of our troubling times,
I sit here singing my greatgranddaughter nursery rhymes.

Thank you all for your prayers they mean so much to us all,
I know that if I slip, my BWS sisters will catch me before I fall...

They say when in need, it’s the real friends that remain,
Those are the angels on earth; that keep you calm and sane.

All the people you know, that smile and seem to care,
Reveal their true faces, when your own smile isn’t there.

That’s when life separates the weeds from the grain,
That’s when a helping hand is there to sooth your pain.

And if you are the One that helps another in need,
You are the nutritious grain, not the needy weed.

Caretakers perform…with a proud, but quiet heart,
Sympathetic but strong, they simply do their part.

Chatty, once again you have given your all,
Either animal or human; - You come when they call.

Wow! Edelweiss I love that poem. And it's so true!
I just love sensitive people, people like you!

I've heard it said, in days gone passed,
The busiest person, that's the one to ask.

Some folks' keep busy, helping this one and that,
They feed the homeless and care for self, last.

You've gotta love the human with a heart,
They lend a helping hand, always doing their part!

ODE to PENNY BROWN

Went geocaching on a trail, in a nearby town,
When I happened upon a memorial for pretty Penny Brown.

Saw her face on the news, not so long ago,
They reported she'd gone missing, where they didn't know.

Penny sprinted that same path, each morning 'bout 6 a.m.,
Ms. Brown and two dogs, which her dearest friends.

The lady's beautiful face, was shown on all TV,
A victim of crime 'tis what, Penny turned out to be.

Some twisted neighbor, with evil in his head,
Hid in the bushes, watching Penny as she sped.

They say one day that madman, coaxed her dogs away,
Penny's now in Heaven, where she'll forever stay.

SAD TO GLAD

Need to change this mood, from heavy to sweet'n light,
Don't like such evil darkness, prefer what's bright'n right.

Here I sit a thinkin', what it takes to make one smile,
Been contemplating it a bit, but only for a while.

A loving, tender touch, came to mind, at first,
Hugs'n kisses enter my thoughts, in a quick, gushing burst.

Achievement, accomplishment, and helping others, too,
Brings happiness to most, bet it does to you.

Pushing the harshness of reality aside,
Feels better, would rather laugh than cry.

Night ruminations
Wreak devastation
Dark contemplations
Breed desolation.

(After having been diagnosed with cancer, then being forced to wait for over a month for surgery, then another 10 days before finding out exactly what we're dealing with (staging, prognosis, etc) - I find this waiting intolerable at times for my fertile imagination!! It's a constant challenge to stay positive and busy. I've baked cookies, cleaned the house, tried reading, meditation, prayer, writing letters, starting Christmas preparations - still, these dark ruminations sneak in and devastate my peace of mind, esp late at night when I can't sleep because of pain and discomfort.)
