As my old crowns crack, I replace them with porcelain for anything visible, and some gold way in the back. This is at the recommendation of my dentist, who seems pretty competent and whom I'm been with since 1980.

I've had teeth that are "crown watch" for years. Then one year, the dentist will say, "OK, this one's getting pretty bad and now would be a good time..." I don't think he pushes it at all.

My dentist's 30ish son (who looks just like his dad!) also became a dentist and now practices in the same office. He gets the new patients. Dentist Sr. is 60ish and will retire in a few years, and Jr. will take over the whole business. Jr. is also very nice.

I just saw the conclusion of "Kidnapped" on PBS last night and it made me want to see the Scottish Highlands so bad! I never even thought about them before this show, but it looked so beautiful and rugged.

Meredithbead,
In your experience, is it easier to match the all-porcelain crowns to each other and your natural teeth than the old style crowns?

Mz Chatty, you wrote: "They not only look awful but they sound just as bad" Do you have video cam? How do you know what they look like? I had no problem understanding Paul McCartney! And he looked fab for 63. And he did a whole show without one single obscene word or profane gesture. What a gentleman! I am so sick and tired of the misogynist rappers. Whatnow, my husband had crowns matched to his natural teeth very well.
