Wheeling Jamboree

They say, the Wheeling Jamboree
Is the 2nd oldest show,
Ever broadcast live,
In radio history, don't ya know.

So if you're lookin' for somethin',
Different or brand new,
Take the kids and family,
To see their jivin', music review.

Geese, this is pathetic. I wanted to do one about Oglebay Park
but haven't as yet.

Where are my poetic cohorts?

Never been to Oglebay Park myself, what is it?

Beautiful Day

Today outside it was a beautiful day,
I decided to take the dogs and go out to play.

The grass was so green, soft, and smelled real sweet,
which caused the three of us to want something to eat.

I packed a lunch, potato salad and hot dogs,
we all munched on the goodies like ravenous hogs.

Once done eating, the dogs slept under a tree,
I took out my pad and pen to write, which relaxes me.

The sun began to hide behind a cloud,
we hurried to get home before the crowd.

These are the kinds of days I love, living here,
no snow to fall or shovel, or to cause a tear.

I hope all's well where you are, and you're feeling content,
if not come to Vegas to see me, I never ask for rent!

Great poem Chatty. Oglebay Park is a 1700 acre, year-round resort and conference center in Wheeling, WV, an hour from Pittsburgh. It is beautiful. You know those pictures
Edelweiss3 has been posting of Germany, it's comparable to those.
There are hills and ponds and hiking trails and every sports activity ever invented. They have a zoo and golf and lighting displays. I have a desire to write a poem about it but haven't had time. But one of these days, perhaps I will.

Good Feelings

Today I brought my mother to a clothing shop,
Her sweater was itchy all the way to the top.

I said, “Mom, lets just buy you a cashmere sweater.”
It’s soft on your skin, and you will feel so much better.”

Rough cloth is still painful from the shingles she had,
A blanket, a breeze, even a soft hug hurts her bad.

Walker and all, we took off through the rain.
I held an umbrella as we walked down the lane.

Mom was tired and weak, and didn’t really want to go,
But I said the fresh air is good, and we will take it slow.

We found just the right sweater, so soft to the touch,
It’s a pale orange colour, and gives her face a pretty blush.

The sales ladies were so sweet, catering to mom’s delight,
Modelling sweaters for her, so she could pick which one was right.

One of the lady’s came over and gently touched my arm,
“How wonderful to see a daughter care, with patience and charm.

It’s terrible what cruel treatment we have seen
Stressed daughters, impatient and down right mean!”

I thought how nice of this lady to tell me so,
And how sad for the elderly, who must feel lost and low.

The ladies all said, when they see such a scene,
They’ll tell the ill tempered daughter, not all are so mean.

They will remember the love they saw between my mother and me,
And relate that to their customers firmly, but friendly.

I left the store, with more than a sweater,
I left the store feeling better then ever.

Bought mom a lipstick to match the orange tone,
And we hummed a happy tune the whole way back home.

Edelweiss, what a heart warming poem, it brought tears to my eyes. I wish I were nearer my own mother.

There is an injection for those who have had the chicken pox when young. It is suppose to prevent shingles or make them milder if they exist already. Its called: ZOSTAVAX You might ask your doctor if it would help your mom?

Thanks Anne, its fun making up these poems.

Aw chatty, I’m touched that my poem moved you so. Thank you. I loved your last poem too, especially your last line. So typical of you!
Jabber, I’ve been getting a kick out of your poems too. I can feel the enthusiasm!
I’m so glad we are continuing this.

Chatty, I jotted ZOSTAVAX down, and will ask the doctor. Thanks so much for the tip.

Edelweiss3, I loved that poem about being sweet to mom and the
store clerks appreciating the kindness you've shown. I wish everybody treated the elderly in a kind, respectful way!

Chatty, I love your poetry, too.

Oglebay Park

Went on vacation, down WV way,
and visited a park,
they named Oglebay.

On the left, wild deer,
Were enjoying their lunch,
It was a lush, green hillside,
Of grass, that they munched.

To the right, far below,
Two ponds 'bout overflowed,
And ducks lined the shores,
With many a row.

A thought came to me,
God must live here,
I'd never seen such beauty,
In one place, all these years.

Green grass, yellow buildings,
Blue paddle boats and a zoo,
Streams and playgrounds,
Oh my gosh, kids have so much to do.

Grounds people were preparing,
A Christmas light display,
Was told, folks 'round the world,
Travel here just to play.

The peacefulness this Oglebay,
Park doth empart,
Forever shall live,
Down deep in my heart!
