Mama Red, your post reminded me of a young woman I met while living in Nova Scotia. She wore a purple/pink mohawk hairdo, white makeup, heavy black mascara and black lipstick. I actually liked the look, especially the artistry of it, and one day finally got up the nerve to stop her and tell her so. Her face lit up and she thanked me. I later found out from another friend that this woman was one of the kindest people my friend had ever met, often coming over to help her look after her five children. After that, we greeted one another whenever we passed each other.

Then I didn't see her for along time and one day passed her on the street without recognizing her because her hair was down, no makeup and she was pushing a baby stroller - she had gotten married and just had a baby and decided it was time to put the mohawk away...later I heard that she had enrolled in art school.

We just can't always judge a book by its cover.
