Here's something I do all year, not just at the holidays. When I'm grocery shopping, especially if it's busy and the lines are long, I'll add two York mints to my cart. After they pass through the checker, I'll give one to the checkout clerk and one to the bagger.

It's great to see their faces light up with this little surprise, and it only costs about $1. Added to your grocery bill, you'll never notice it. It's fun!

That sounds like something you'd do you sweet neat lady! You probably make their day after dealing with so many nasty, crabby people. My hats off to them and to you!

Oh I so love to hear these stories and see what others do to lighten the load of themselves and others they meet...exactly why I enjoy collecting the stories to put on my million acts of kindness website! Although, I'll admit, I got a bit worn out trying to keep up with it...people seem to enjoy the stories I've posted (and thanks to those on this list who allowed me to post their stories) and the weekly tips...it is rare, however, that a story is posted. I'm sure I can do a better job at it and will continue to look for ways.

One of the tips I shared with my subscribers was to give a compliment...especially to a stranger. I make it a habit of finding a way to to compliment the checker or bagger or sales clerk or whoever may be taking care of me, or even the person in line behind me (especially those folks juggling the shopping and little ones).

Sometimes I find it challenging, especially when I'm looking at a tattooed, pierced person with "odd color" hair and even "funnier" clothes. One day I wasn't coming up with anything right away (my judgment nerd was on OVERDRIVE!) and finally said to this cute soul..."wow, you have a unique way of combining colors...it shows your bright personality". The girl beamed like a lightbulb...and I was still in integrity...I didn't lie AND I was still able to keep my personal commitment to uplifting.

Even as I walked out the door, laughing at myself for having to "work so hard", I could see the beautiful grin on this person's face. She lit up my entire day with that one smile!

And who knows, maybe her smile lit up the next person's in line!

i am sure her smile did light up manie that day. well done not being intimidated or condesending in the focus of your compliment, you know the why? when youv such a prettie face stuff people come out with lol I sure in fact i know a lot of "diffrent" looking people get left out of this type of stuff becouse they look so diffrent, at core thir just people still.

big pat on the back to you smile

Thanks Celtic-Flame...I know it is much easier to compliment the pretty or sexy or brilliant ones among us...and I know we don't all necessarily fall in that category (believe me, I don't!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I believe each person is, at their core, Light, the Christ Spirit if you will and do my best to look for that in people. AND I don't always succeed! Darnit...and here I wanted to wear my "I'm perfect" pin...giggle!!!!!!!

Mama Red, your post reminded me of a young woman I met while living in Nova Scotia. She wore a purple/pink mohawk hairdo, white makeup, heavy black mascara and black lipstick. I actually liked the look, especially the artistry of it, and one day finally got up the nerve to stop her and tell her so. Her face lit up and she thanked me. I later found out from another friend that this woman was one of the kindest people my friend had ever met, often coming over to help her look after her five children. After that, we greeted one another whenever we passed each other.

Then I didn't see her for along time and one day passed her on the street without recognizing her because her hair was down, no makeup and she was pushing a baby stroller - she had gotten married and just had a baby and decided it was time to put the mohawk away...later I heard that she had enrolled in art school.

We just can't always judge a book by its cover.

the important thing is that you know that lights is in everyone and you try to find something in the physical to compliment.

bit like gifts and wrapping paper, peper being the physical bodie and the gift being that god devine light...

i feel kinda i let myself dowen a bit if i overlie harslie judge someone or can't quite get to find something likable in most people even thouse that irritate me or have been cruel and unjind to me or mine ...but then again i just hunmane lol and no perfect pin for me either

Eagle was the ladie that was very kind a young one as i kinda like the young ones expressing them selfs in individuel ways. generiallie people having kids are kinda young and who knows what they growe into as a more mature person. Either with or without a purpile mowhock lol smile

Hi Celtic Flame

I love your comparison of the wrapping paper and the gift...great one!

I know I seem to judge quickly and easily, darn it! And I so wanted that "I am Perfect" pin too. I've been studying something called "The Work" by Byron Katie and love her approach...we all judge! Period. And when I think of it, she's right.

The other person's work I incorporate into mine is Debbie Ford, specifically "Dark Side of the Light Chasers". She talks about every one of us having every human trait...those labeled "good" and those labeled "bad". Took me some serious practice (which continues today) to think I could have the same traits as either Mother Theresa or Hitler! Egads! Big pill to swallow!

And it has helped in so many ways (especially when I get over my bad a** self and cut myself a break and realize it is really arrogant to think I can do it perfectly...jeez, this journey of spiritual awakening has been an interesting one!).

I know all of us grow out of, and into, various ways of expressing ourselves. And how long has the older generation been saying the younger one is going to he** in a handbasket! Grin...

So we do the best we can, learn from our own actions and those of others and make choices, eh?

Darn! and Whoo Hoo!!!!!!!!!!
