i thought you went to bed, celtic?

anne: i read a couple of different things . . . that it means sleep soundly, or that it means to sleep with your mattress springs tightened (because in the old days evidently they got loose and you would fall down or something).

Anne,
In no way did I mean to diminish [you being shot at] by throwing the Illinois political stuff in here. I do apologize.
I'm certain being shot at was a hugely traumatic event. When
I was a kid, a neighbor was always pointing a shotgun at people.
He aimed in my direction once. That freaked me out for a long,
long time. God bless you. Prayers and best wishes,

Jabber,
Everyone missed my account of being shot at also, though I think it was worth a mention. But oh well, the subjects fly fast and furiously!

Excellent point, Chatty! I said as much on New Years Eve, yet here is the same old tired rhetoric days after we celebrated that the overwhelming majority of our United States citizens, who come from every country in the world, have gotten along very well and have survived another year in the Melting Pot.

Prejudice about race, gender, color, physical appearance, religion, politics, sexual orientation, financial status, sports allegiances, etc etc etc .... is universal to all of us since the world was invented. In my opinion, it's how we deal with our own private prejudices which separates the civilized from those who are not.

i am so sorry you had to go through all of that. i cannot even imagine. it is completely incomprehensible to me.

and you employer . . . what a dirt bag. horrible.

josie: sad that you see this thread as "same old tired rhetoric."

i often wonder why people who don't like certain threads feel compelled to stick around and comment. what is stopping you from reading something you are interested in.

some people think that talking about things is important and i really wish that people would stop repeating that quote which was not even correct. NO ONE HAS SAID ON THIS THREAD THAT THE MAJORITY OF CRIMES IS COMMITTED BY POOR BLACKS. someone misquoted, and then others picked it up and misquoted some more. but it was never said and that needs to be acknowledged.

can you imagine what would happen if i went on some other thread here and made a statement to the people discussing whatever that i found their views "tired old rhetoric?"
