[color:#660000] [i] I have a good friend here who thought that my sons were mixed race because I once had a marriage that w as. I thought I'd take this chance to show off my son's, Christopher the psychologist and Dominic, starting Grad school after he completes his straight "A" BA at Carleton University. Both are 6'5" Sorry that the photos are so big! I don't know why that happened.

Wow, so sorry they are such big photos! They came out that way!
Anyway, my youngest son Dominic just returned from India where he completed his second fellowship. He has one more year to his bachelors and then goes on to Grad school. He has taken the G-SAT

Maybe the photos are big because they're both 6'5"? OK, I couldn't resist that one! grin

Thank you all so much. I am proud of my sons. The young woman in the photo is my son Christophers wife, Kristi. They are close to me and I am really pleased about that because sons can move away so easily. They keep in close touch. Dominic has been accepted into his doctorate program now so I am very proud of him! He is only 21. I had Chris so young we grew up together but he has done well, buying his first home at this time.

Thank you for letting me brag!

[color:#660000] [size:11pt]My youngest son is home for some days before returning to University. He attends Carleton college, an expensive private university.
He will graduate with honors next year.
His professors are helping him find a program where he can go towards his doctorate and acheive it in four years. He is talking to me about taking six months off first. He is 21. I'm not sure how to advise. He is an academic and loves the world, usually not happy when not studying. Again, I'm not sure how to advise.
He tells me his professors say he has much to offer as a scholar and are anxious to help him enter the doctorate program. He says he feels pressure.

The other factor is that he is in love but the person he is in love with is already in Grad school at Cornell.

I am wondering if he wants to live with this person for those months and that is why he is thinking of a break.

Still, my husband thinks he is saying this to get a bit of a "rise," out of me and that his professors and his closeness to them will cause him to go right to school.

He is on my laptop all the time, searching out schools, he is looking at places like Yale and Berkley...

Any thoughts?

Thus far I have not reacted but told him it was my preference that he move on to his doctorate. I also said it was his life.

I like his love interest VERY much.

Just wondering what your brains think.

Hmmm, have you asked him why he wants to take off six months? You might be surprised. He may have a very good reason. Sometimes it's good for them to take time off, intern, work, and make sure the degree they're seeking is what they truly want.

I bet you are lvoing having him around. ISn't it fun when they come home briefly?

I agree with what Dotsie said. Trying the job/profession you've chosen to learn is always a good idea because one never knows until they have if it will actually be a good fit for them. He sounds like he is putting his ducks all in a row, and thats a good thing
