Chatty, dancer9, Dotsie, everyone... IMO, US Citizens of all ages should have medical coverage. We're taxed multiple times. The government sends aid upon aid overseas, and our people suffer. County run nursing homes are the cheapest, around here; and, they cost sixty grand a year. Peoples' entire life-savings are gone in a blink, even if their kin don't swindle their estates. I hope if the Hillary factor does succeed in capturing the White House, she'll keep her promise to fix the Health Care System.

Chatty, I attempted 2 research how many illegal immigrants there are in the US. It ranges from 7 million to 20 million. Some sites say 10 million. Apparently, nobody knows!!!!???? But they do know, nationwide, the figures show that a record 46.6 million Americans had no health insurance in 2005. "In the past year, Massachusetts and Vermont have passed laws requiring all their residents to obtain health insurance, with help from the state if necessary. The States of Washington, Montana, Rhode Island, Wisconsin and Illinois are considering expanding coverage to reduce the number of uninsured." Somebody has to do something!!! Coverage for all citizens, without devastating the economy, will be a good a trick. I hope and pray it can be accomplished. Anne327, Bravo! We can do it! You R right!!!

Chatty, I had no idea that 9 hospitals closed because of Arnold. The hospitals wouldn't exist in Germany either if they weren't State supported as well. Bonnierose I was shocked to read about the sky rocketing illegal immigrant numbers. And that was interesting as well to read about Ma. and Vermont's health insurance policy. Thanks for posting this. Illegal immigrants are a great problem in Europe as well. We get them from Poland, Turkey, Russia ( Russian Mafia) and Africa. I think the only solution is to try to support these third world countries, so that the people don't want to flee. The whole thing is a mess.

That's outrageous. Blaming Mexicans for the disaster of the American health care system and all the crime in Las Vegas??!!
"Ill gotten gain"?? People living on minimum wage, working in the fields, dangerous construction, meat packing--jobs most *Americans* would never do and for less than a living wage at that. Jobs without benefits or health insurance, and managing somehow to save a little money to send to needy family members. You find this grievous?
The mess of the American health care *system* is hardly the responsibility of Mexican immigrants. America spends more on health care than any other country in the world and yet our children go unimmunized, mothers are forced to have drive by deliveries, and every few years Congress votes itself an ever better free health care package without copays or member premiums.
The real problem with American health care is the insurance industry and greedy personal injury attorneys and the utter inability of political leadership to install real health care reform for all Americans. The money is already there and already being spent, but disproportionately some Americans get lots while others get nothing.
American health care is completely broken and it is the fault of Americans , not Mexicans.

Chatty, I might sound cheeky but I guess if you or some other American citizen who stood in the hr. long line-up to cash the cheque, that only contributed to the already long wait.
How do you know that these "illegals" that you see physically..are all "illegals"?
Please be careful and think through what you've just said.
I have told this forum under a different topic, that I was a volunteer for a few years for national organization on race relations/human rights. YOu want know how this organization got started???
It started with a national tv documentary that claimed foreign (ie. non-white) students were taking the lion's share of the top pharmacy university program spots.
In fact, the camera panned over Asian faces...who were Canadians ...like my 1 sister who was part of that first year pharmacy studenty body during the tv documentary was televised.
She and many others were outraged. ...Suffice to say, it ...spawned a permanant organization..to educate the general public.
If people complain about illegals, then they better make sure they don't employ them to babysit, mow the lawn, pick veggies/fruit (jobs American-born and Canadian-born citizens don't care in majority), etc...at often lower wages than AMerican-born or Canadian-born would accept/tolerate.
And for the schools clogged with children of illegals or whatever..how would you distinguish these children from illegals vs. legals? Well, they could be Dotsie's children and you wouldn't know it....
YOu know, the "illegal" hysteria in CAnada isn't pitch hysteria here. I haven't really talked enough with social workers with enough international connections to understand the differences between Canada and U.S. in the "problems" that illegals are impacting on the system. There is a process of deportation, arrests, etc.
I suspect that there are alot of legal immigrants in the U.S. and their children now born in the U.S. that is confusing the "optics" and causing hysteria. After all, U.S. natural birth rate is dropping...
Yea, sure there are moochers of every colour that take advantage of the system.
