Dioxin chemcials cause breast cancer and other cancers.
Dioxins are released when plastic bottles are filled with water and put in the freezer; plastic wraps, like Saran, are put over food to be cooked in the microwave; and plastic containers are put in the microwave oven.
I've been storing food in those cheap, plastic containers for years. I've even frozen sauces, etc. in them. Guess I'll stop that, asap. I've never heated anything in the microwave in them. But if plastic bottles shouldn't be put in the freezer, it follows that food shouldn't be frozen in plastic containers, either. What say U?
Ciao for now,
b. rose

BRose, this is good information. I have plastic bottles filled with water in my freezer in case I lose power during a hurricane. I use them to keep whatever is in the fridge fresh for a least a day until I can get ice. I've never used plastic for any of the uses you stated. How happy am I!

Really? No wonder the incidence of cancer is increasing at an alarming rate, with no 'public' explanation of why it is so.

What about warming a baby's bottle (plastic) in the microwave? This is a common practice in Australia, I'm horrified!

Thank you so much for this information.

dear bws...
I received the above info in my email yesterday. I should've researched it before I shared it with my favorite site. I did not! This is apparently a hoax. I researched the subject today and discovered that plastics do NOT put out dioxins!!! Freezing water in plastic bottles does NOT cause the above mentioned problems.
I apologize. I was WRONG. Sorry for the unnecessary alarm.
I'm telling you folks, I'm getting so I don't believe anybody or anything, anymore. GOSH...

There are so many hoaxes going around. I have heard that you should only use plastic bottles a few times and then throw them out. There are chemicals that leach from the plastic after over use and this can be dangerous. Also, people tend to just rinse the bottles out and not wash them thoroughly which creates and spreads germs.

Although I would never put my babies bottle in the microwave. I always heated up baby bottles by putting them in a pot or bowl filled with hot water.
Microwaves don't always heat equally and a bottle after microwaving can seem warm and ok, but in the middle it can be scalding hot and burn the baby.
Not worth taking a chance.

Kate

Bonnie, never you mind that this is a hoax. It is always better to be safe, than to be sorry. Keep reporting things you hear and we will eventually sort it all out. I report all I hear, and have been called on it, but I will do it until I die, in case one warning is correct and can save a life. HUGS...

Actually, are you sure that freezing bottles of water is not dangerous. I have heard this one from a multitude of sources, some of which I completely trust. hmmmmmmm

Thanks for thinking of us, regardless of the outcome. You really never know.
