Welcome humlan! I'm an American living in Germany. I'm still very attatched to my roots. I definitely feel more American than German, despite my 33 years here. How about you? Do you feel more Swedish or American?

About feeling more american... i am born in the czech rep.,grown up in the US and moved away to sweden when i got married.. so i am truely and utterly a mixture of everything. a "citizen of the world" maybe? Metallica has a song that goes "where ever i lay my head is home". i think they kind of sum it up for me.. However, i still think english is the language i am most at home with..i can´t express myself as clearly and precisely in swedish which is a problem for ex.,when talking to doctors. i am fluent in swedish and the swedes think i am swedish..maybe just from another part of sweden..as you can tell, i am pretty . i´ve been away from the states for so long except for shorter visits..so i´m not really totally at home there either. Altho i considered moving to napa valley, calif. after my divorce (after 32yrs of marriage)in 2000. but most of my kids are here in sweden..so... i hope my answer isn´t too long for this forum??? would love to hear more from you..

thanks so much for all your mail! I was so surprised when I got a note from you, dotsie, asking me to come back! Thank you so much everyone!

My life in sweden..hmmm.. i am a, soon to be 60yr old, divorcé (that sounded pretty good, i thought) ..living with my "sambo" who is 34 and swedish. i have 4 kids living..ages 34,30,27 and 17. My 17yr old is living with us in our 2 room plus kitchen apartment but it works for us! My oldest child, susan, died of a liver disease at 11yrs. She died 1982 so it´s a while back..but as it says in a swedish novel "the moment that always stays in the present"..loosely translated... i am a teacher at a day care center outside of stockholm where most of the children are muslims from turkey..but we have kids from russia, korea, china, old yugoslavia etc etc. the children are between the ages of 2-6yrs old. i enjoy my work eventho it has it´s heavy problems.. i say i want to retire which we do at the age of 65 here, but i am not sure that i would like that either. i work a 36hr/week..40hr/week is full time. I have just started jogging again..i gave it up after my divorce..and i am finally finding why i jogged before..i feel alot better and it helps keeping thoughts and problems in perspective. i take walks around a smaller lake near by..and sit on the rocks and dream..i am a dreamer, yes! the vikings lived around this lake a long time ago..this gives me a feeling of history, permanence, mystery..listen to my mp3 (ipod thing) and just take it all in... well, that´s about it for now... do write and tell me about yourselves..any meeting points we might have..

YES::: I would very much like to be in the book club!!! I order my books over the net so that i can get hold of current authors etc... and perhps even give you some ideas too..thanks!!!!
