I don't want to go into it too much, but I am getting e-mails from someone and I don't know who it is. They have the right e-mail because of my name mention. I have reported it to the authorities but I would LOVE to know how to find out who it is. They have used a fake name from Yahoo obviously. I have searched the internet to try and find out who they really are but to no avail. Anyone know how to trace an email back to its culprit?

Ah Chick...I just recovered from the faint. You could have put a pillow under me...jeesh.

As far as tracing an email back to its culprit...I think only special schooled police can do that. Usually creeps like that change their address too, so it's hard to block them. I get those as well...especially from stock market brokers. They are a royal pain. I know.

I know that when using Outlook, you can right-click the message header, then select "options" from the menu, and get all sorts of routing information. I don't know if that same information is available in other email programs. There was a time when I was able to understand all of that info and trace a message back to its originating ISP, but I don't know if I can do that anymore. You should be able to contact someone at your police station who deals with harassing emails, they'll be able to trace it. Or contact your ISP, they may be able to help too. You should be able to at least put a block on the sender's IP address. Even if it's a yahoo account, the email would still have to originate from a computer with enough unique identification information to be able to trace it - IP address, network card address, etc. Again, contact your ISP to help, and/or the appropriate section of the police.

Thanks Hannelore, JJ and Eagle. I have passed it over to the authorities and they were contacted. There will be charges laid if it continues. I just wish I knew who it could be and why.

How threatening are the emails? It would scare me something awful. I hope they catch whoever it is.

Well, I found this site( it took Echick 3 days ) that traces ip addresses and I am posting it here for all of you in case you ever need to trace one. I can't get the one from my email but my daughter can and she is asleep right now(time change). I should know more in the morning. I will keep you posted.
