Mad - this ain't an easy thing to hear, is it? I know that you will find the way to make this all right, and am sorry that you have to "start over". It does sound like you have all the right information to make this second time around much easier, tho.

Best to you and I am waiting to hear your good news, soon.

Both books were published by a small, traditional press. And, just because you have books published, it doesn't mean the way is clear ahead. Hopefully, because this is from no fault of mine, I will be able to interest another publisher. I really do like the small presses. I'm the type who cheers for the underdog. And, for the most part, they are. They are up against the big coporate publishers with all the money and pull.

Just saw this post. So sorry, Mad. What a blow when things were looking so good. Happy to hear you had a nibble. Don't forget to check Predators and Editors on the web.

Madhatter,
Sorry to hear about your publisher. I know you will find someone else with your talent. I pray you find an editor or agent you like even better than the last one.

Hello Mad, I have been thinking about this bad news re: ur publisher. I never considered that a publisher could go out of business, and then what happens to the author? I used print-on-demand to get published. I was in a hurry to get my story told, as I had cancer at the same time I was shopping my book to traditional publishers and/or agents. So I went with Authorhouse POD. The product looks good, and AH was on time for every step. I don't regret it at all. I do all the same marketing I would have to do with a traditional publisher. And AH is growing, as is the POD industry, so there's no chance of the company folding. You can go to my site and then click on the Authorhouse link. Much luck to you!

Thanks,Lenora.
I keep hearing that I should just self-publish. I just don't know...Mainly, because I have so little time right now to devote to all of the little steps. Not to mention the money up front. I am going to search for an agent to place the book, first. I won't rule out the self-publishing route yet. I do feel better prepared now to promote, so I have learned a lot. If nothing else, I have gained an enormous amount of self-esteem. That is a bonus!

Madhat, I found the steps easy, and easier on me emotionally than getting the rejection letters from publishers. That Catch-22 was too frustrating: the publishers want a new author to have an agent, an agent want a writer who is published. I think the end product of self-publishing is great. Sure, I wish a traditional publisher like Health Communications would pick up my book. Hey, if you find a good agent, there are tons of us here who would love to know! I'm glad you found self-esteem in this journey!

Mad, Princess Lenora has a point. I wrote a non-fiction book and am in the process of self-publishing with Dog Ear Publishers. I spent a long time sending out my book proposal with no results and wanted to get the information out now to help others. Okay, not now, but in a few more months. All these things take time, but POD is faster.
