I can't write - at least not books - but I have an idea every so often. What can I do with them?

When Prayers Collide, a story about two prayer warriors, praying for opposing results to a situation.

Pen Me In: AdVenture with a Pen, a group of aspiring women writers meet and collaborate in writing a book together. They play act, laugh, cry, party, etc. - [ad]venture with a pen.

My Heart is Yours, a young girl goes into the hospital, as does an older woman. The young girl is dying, the older woman must have an organ transplant or she will die. The two don't know each other, or each other's dilemma, but a beautiful ending develops as the older woman has knowledge as how to save the young girl's life - but, the woman needs the young girl's heart. (I've even seen this one play out in my mind as a movie - Susan Sarandan playing the older woman and Natalie Portman as the girl. Both would be characters who become loved by the viewers. The viewers would be torn by the consideration of either of them dying.)

Harry Pooter, a spoof on Harry Potter.

[One of my favorite things is book titles. My husband says I can get turned on simply by going into a bookstore and just reading the titles. It has become a joke to him. My personal library is full of books chosen by title, alone.]

Why not check into doing copywriting. You sound like a natural to me.

And you could always start a group of some kind in your area like, WWI, (Women With Ideas)....and just brainstorm. You never know where one idea might led you all. And...you could make the meetings where you all have lunch together. The worst thing that could happen would be that you have a lunch together and fun...yes?

If you want to write, then I would suggest baby steps. Try writing an essay, enter contest (ours, in particular) or write something and get a friend to critique it...take a free class from your community center or junior colleges, or JOURNAL. Erica Miner has great ideas for journaling.

There are lots of things you could do. But as Gail Patterson, (the coach on the free Teleseminar that Dotsie had the other night for NABBW members), said ... find what makes you passionate and develop the key things from that passion.

Hope this helps a tad.

JJ, my social skills s***! I've tried developing them, but fail over and over and over. I was not born to thrive in social settings, period. I'm the weed in a lovely garden. I have checked into joining a local writing group, which meets in the main branch of our local library, but the membership is made up of doctors (published), lawyers, teachers - people way above my league. Fear, inferiority, regret hold me back. I'll reconsider joining, on your suggestion, tho.

I think I would be better at helping someone else write, not editing, but making suggestions. I just can't do any one thing really well. I accept that. Copywriting sounds like fun, but on an I feel like it bases. Couldn't do it facing a deadline... ewww, unappealing, indeed.

Back to this in a minute... I have a computer question from a sister (long distance).

gimster,

why not start your own writing group...put up a flyer at the library and local book stores, etc.

You could also work with a ghost writer...someone who takes your ideas and puts them on paper...it works several ways...you get full credit...you share credit...but either way...you get to develop your ideas without the writer's block...

I taught a writing class last year...mostly on how to get started writing...one of the women has just finished the first draft of a novel...the others are just playing with their writing for their own entertainment...

You might be able to do this through your local community school (if you have one)...JJ and I are going to co-teach a more advanced class starting in a couple of weeks...

I'm rambling...but I will be happy to share ideas for a writing group with you if you are interested

I'd pick those titles to read the back cover, gimster.

Gimster, there are two fantastic writers groups online. They are warm, witty, helpful and non threatening. You might log on and give them a look-see! You may see me there.

www.storycrafters.net (mostly newbie writers struggling along.)

www.authorsociety.com (more established writers, give great advice)

I love these titles and descriptions. Perhaps you should start with short stories and gain more confidence. There are lots of places to submit them....although most don't pay or pay very little, it's still a thrill to see them out there!

Great ideas, I say go for it in baby steps. A page a day or even a chapter a month.
