Question for you all. Have any of you WHO ARE NOT artist, ever painted a mural on a wall? If so, how did you do it? I've seen so many darling ones in children's rooms. My daughter-in-law and I were discussing it one day and I said I would ask you all and see if anyone could shed some light on it.

And while I'm at it, has anyone ever painted a brick fireplace? I want to paint mine white. Help? Suggestions?

I've seen the kind that go up like wallpaper at Home Depot or Lowes, I think.
Or you could try stencils, they are cute too!

I've actually done the stenciling before and really enjoyed the look. I'll check out Lowe's and Home Depot and see if they have any of those "throw them on the wall" type stickers; the large ones.

My DIL and I have been inspired by a new catalog I get called The Land of Nog. The children's rooms are so divine! But girl, you better the ready to sell a kidney if you buy something from them. Holy Moly!

JJ, we did some of these in the children's Sunday school classrooms at my church.

We took coloring book pages and an overhead projector. You increase the size onto your wall and with a pencil trace the picture. Just erase if you mess up.

Then you take acrylic paints and fill in the lines like coloring.

It's very time consuming but can be done.

As far as the fireplace bricks are concerned, I'd make sure you use a paint just for cememt or brick. Latex may not adhere properly. Personally, I'd use an oil based paint.

I'm no artist but have done many home improvement projects.

Laurel

Laurel, that is exactly what I was going to say. And the funny thing is that I also learned this from our church. A gal did our whole church nursery this way and it looks fantastic. I'm not sure she used coloring book pictures. She may have drawn on a transperancy and then put it on the projector. Either way, it worked.

I painted a mural on my mothers bedroom wall when I was 3 yrs old. I used her lipstick.
Haven't done one since - wonder why - maybe a bit traumatized by the reaction the first one received.
