Ode to Motherhood Her children were perfect, they were two,
A boy and a girl and she loved them so.
She followed them around like a mother hen,
She sang their praises from friend to friend.
She took them to church three times a week,
And taught them the Lord was theirs to seek.
She talked to them about things from above,
And taught them that Jesus was pure love.
She led them to Christ in their own home,
Told them they’d never be alone.
She’d walk them through the pastures green,
And down the dirt road, sights unseen.
The bridge had holes, the girl was scared,
But the little boy went where she never dared!
She took them in her arms at night,
And read to them while they were quiet.
She said their prayers and tucked them in,
Happy that her children loved her then.
Week-ends came, cooking in the kitchen,
Little ones under foot, oh what vixens!
While she cooked they stayed and watched,
And learned that cooking was an art.
She baked them cookies, pies, and cakes,
As days came around they would celebrate.
She taught them to love the little things,
A walk in the park, the slide, the swings.
She taught them compassion and the joy of life…
She taught them humor and how to laugh…
She taught them that goodness could be found,
If they’d look hard and all around.
She taught them that evil did exist,
And always it’s slimy grasp to resist.
She taught them hard and she taught them well,
They were little sponges under her spell…
The spell of motherhood, oh so sweet!
The best time of her life, but oh so fleet!
