I was surprised to notice an elaborate display in my church hall yesterday when I arrived for prayer group.

Someone has set aside an area to educate us about other faith practices. Throughout the world there are many faith groups and spiritual practices. One thing that is central to all of these groups is prayer.

I thought I'd share one of my favorite prayers that can be accepted by all faiths...(in my opinion)

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is offense, pardon,
Where there is discord, unity,
Where there is doubt, faith,
Where there is error, truth.
Where there is despair, hope.

Where there is sadness, joy,
Where there is darkness, light.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so
much seek to be consoled as to console,
To be understood as to understand,
To be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned.
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Someday I hope to memorize this. It is one of those prayers I can recite when others are reciting it, but can't do it without help. I have parts memorized, but not the whole prayer.

What are some of your favorite prayers?
