I was surprised to notice an elaborate display in my church hall yesterday when I arrived for prayer group.

Someone has set aside an area to educate us about other faith practices. Throughout the world there are many faith groups and spiritual practices. One thing that is central to all of these groups is prayer.

I thought I'd share one of my favorite prayers that can be accepted by all faiths...(in my opinion)

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is offense, pardon,
Where there is discord, unity,
Where there is doubt, faith,
Where there is error, truth.
Where there is despair, hope.

Where there is sadness, joy,
Where there is darkness, light.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so
much seek to be consoled as to console,
To be understood as to understand,
To be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned.
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Someday I hope to memorize this. It is one of those prayers I can recite when others are reciting it, but can't do it without help. I have parts memorized, but not the whole prayer.

What are some of your favorite prayers?

Oh Dots, I love this prayer too. Have you heard it in song?

It is called The Peace Prayer of St. Francis...we sing it in church. It is beautiful.

Here's one of mine:

Come, Holy Spirit
Fill the hearts of your faithful
And kindle within them, the fire of Your love
Send forth your Spirit, and they shall be created
and You shall renew the face of the earth

I'm sure I've heard it through the years, but I'm not too musically inclined so I can't remember. Duh!

Renew the face of the earth. That's powerful.

Here's another little one I write every morning:

MORE YOU,
less me.

Dotsie, that's my favorite line - renew the face of the earth. I always think, "when"?? We need renewal down here. But it works one person at a time, right?
I like "more you, less me"! It says so much, in so few words. Thanks!

I guess I should clarify that:

More Jesus,
Less Dotsie.

Chick, when the kids were little they had Bible song tapes. There are certain verses I sing due to memorizing those songs. That verse is one of them. I love it.

Bluebird, one person at a time is right. We sometimes forget we need to be that person. At least I do.
