I have done a little research and have chosen the book for the first read.

I chose it because it has to do with women sharing their stories, and encouraging and supporting one another in everyday life. Sound familiar?

The Saving Graces by Patricia Gaffney! I have read it but can't wait to get into it again. It is that good. I read it while at the beach with a bunch of friends and felt like a hermit at times when I hunkered down in privacy to get through another good part. I laughed, cried, and related with the women in the story and I think you will too.

Hopefully you can get it at the library, local book store, or at Amazon.com. The price on Amazon is $7.99. They also have used copies for as little as $0.55. Uhhh, how do they do that? Geez!

Here is how it works:

I will add a forum for the book club and will allow anyone to post about it as long as they don't give too much away. (Done, you are in that forum!)

There will be a beginning and end date for each book read. Once the end date passes we can talk more openly in the forums.

Meantime if you have finished and another woman comments that they have also completed the book you can go behind the scenes (by e-mail) and *talk* about it until everyone else catches up.

I have never done this before so it's a trial and error gig.

I am also going to set up a group e-mail list so we will know who is in the book club. Does anyone object to that? I can always do it as a blind e-mail if you want so your address isn't blasted around. However I figure that most of you have the e-mail address available to anyone who wants to contact us in the forums... so it should be cool.

Why don't we say the begin date is Aug. 1, and the end date is Sept.30? Sound fair?

For those of you who said "Sign me up", I will be sending you an e-mail this week.

Also, what if the first one finished gets to pick the next book? That way we'll have variety. Don't you think?

Any questions or comments?

Coming soon...A Boomerwomenspeak Movie Club!

Keep checking the forums. [Big Grin]

I understand women are getting their books...happy reading.

A little pointer:

There are 4 women in the story and because I had a hard time keeing track of each of their lives, I took little notes about each character while I read.

It is possible, and very likely that you won't have to do this. Just my brain gets a little goofy at times... [Razz]

My library has all books check out and many already on reserve. You must have picked a god book. I also have not been able to locate it at a bookstore, food store etc. Since my reading time is so limited I may have to sit this one out. I do have Gaffney's next book "FLlight Lessons" Maybe I will start on that one......Don't drop me from the club for lack of participation I just need a head start I guess.

Have you tried some of the discount department stores? Walmart, Alco, Target, etc. I have often found the books I want there to be less expensive than at bookstores. Waldenbooks, Borders, etc. may also have the book. Just a thought. If I can find the book, I may go ahead and buy it. Not sure if I'll have time to read it right away with school starting, but will give it a try. Might be just the thing to work on while having a slow moment at work. When our census is down at night, sometimes we have 2 or 3 hours where we just answer call lights. I get a lot of reading and writing down during these times.

Maggie, I am going to see how far along women are because I know a couple women are finished and if we wait until the end of September to discuss it we may forget some of the good stuff!

Keep checking in. [Wink]

I've ordered my book and look forward to this 'book club by web'. I will also be taking classes, so I hope I can keep up! Thanks again for the idea.

I have heard from almost everyone and several are finished, 2 couldn't get to it this time, and the rest should be finished the first week in September.

I will email everyone the first week and remind you it is time to post about the book.

Okay peri-menopausal and menopausal women, no menopause moments when it comes time to *chat*. Try to remember your favorite and least favorite parts. Who you related to the most, when you laughed, and when you cried.

Any other things for us to remember?

I think discussing "what ONE quality did each Grace bring to the friendships" would be appropriate. Maybe you might call it their ONE strength, or personality, or whatever...but it seems each person had ONE outstanding characteristic...whatcha think?

Well, guess what I did, after saying I was going to have to sit this one out? I went and bought the book anyway! I haven't had time to read more than one page so far, but I'm hoping to find time between classes or while at work on break to read some. It might take me a while, so don't wait on me, but at least I can feel involved a little. I've often wished I could belong to a reading club locally, but it is very difficult to find time for everyone to get together to discuss books, perhaps doing it online is the ticket. Can't wait to get started.

I finished the book while I was on vacation during the first week of August. I could not put it down. I read on the beach and back in our place while waiting for others to get ready to go out. A GREAT book! Ever since I turned 40, I feel like my memory keeps getting more short term. I may need to read it again in order for me to be able to discuss it. Give us a heads up when we are getting close to discussing it. I will have to review it and my notes again.
