Sher Member Registered: 08/09/04 Posts: 242 Loc: Midwest	I like this topic. I love hearing which Bible verses are important to other people. I find it very helpful and I often notice some verses I've not given as much thought to as maybe I should. One of my favorites is: Zechariah 4:10 "Do not despise the small beginnings for God is glad to see the work has been begun." That hangs over my desk. I have it there to remind me that everyone has to start somewhere. As I am a writer, it encourages me to keep plugging away... no matter how discouraged I get from time to time. (About the time the rejection letters arrive!) Do you all have some favorite verses you'd share with me???

One verse I always keep in mind is Romans 8:28- "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose". It helps me view everything that happens in a different light and gives me strength and hope no matter what situation I'm facing.

In all ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path. I live by it. There are many things of this world that I don't understand. Faith carries me and reminds me I don't have to be able to figure it all out. That's His job.

My two favorites are: Luke 12:31, "But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you," and Luke 11:9, "And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." I particularly like the last one because how many times by asking, seeking and knocking, have I found answers to questions that troubled my mind.. Love this topic because the words of God provide such comfort and peace....

Go to mlisten rather than to offer a sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong. Don't be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. As I read these I try to understand what they mean. I begin Bible study soon and am very excited to learn.

Right after verse 1, my Bible references direct me to Hoseah 6:6-"I want your constant love, not your animal sacrifices. I would rather have my people know me than burn offerings to me" . After Ecclesiastes 5: 2, my Bible directs me to Proverbs 10:19-"The more you talk, the more likely you are to sin. If you are wise, you will keep quiet". Hope this helps!

Cahtty, I'm psyched that you are starting Bible study soon. Do you have a Life Application Bible? That's the best thing since sliced bread. Also, Eugene Peterson's books, The Message. Check them out on Amazon. It's the Bible in today's words. It's fun to read one version and then read Peterson's interpretation. Just a thought...

For Bible study we meet in smaller groups, the congregation numbers in the thousands, on Saturday night service there were 1361 people there to worship God. Anyhow we meet and read from the Bible and discuss it so people like myself with so many questions gets them answered. It's a warm and loving time well spent. Dotsie the Bible I have is called: HOLY BIBLE, New International Version, by Zondervan (with words of Christ in red letters)its in large print and easy to read.

I was part of a Bible study group years ago and we learned so much from each other. It was a wonderful experience. Women from the Bible are so much like us and vice versa. There is so much we could glean from them--they were brave, bright,kind and compassionate--and so are we!

It's similar to your's, but at the bottom of each page there's a modern day interpretation which is extremely helpful for me. For more verses about tongues check out James 3:2,3 3:6 3:8 Also, if anyone is interested perhaps we could do a private forum Bible Study. Pick a book of the Bible and post about it each day?

Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding." Proverbs has so much to teach us regarding our words too!

Sher Member Registered: 08/09/04 Posts: 242 Loc: Midwest	I'm a big, big fan of the Message Bible. Even growing up in church, I missed a lot of the nuances in the Bible until I got the Message. My feeling is that it would be how everyone would sound were this all to take place today. It's good to have several versions and compare them. The Prayer of Jabez is breathtaking, isn't it? It gets right to the heart of the matter and in such a beautiful way.
