Here's a blonde story for Chick and anyone else afraid of horses.

A blonde decides to try horseback riding, even though she has had no lessons nor prior experience. She mounts the horse unassisted, and the horse immediately springs into motion.

It gallops along at a steady and rhythmic pace, but the blond begins to slide from the saddle. In terror, she grabs for the horse's mane, but cannot seem to get a firm grip. She tries to throw her arms around the horse's neck, but she slides down the horse's side anyway. The horse gallops along, seemingly oblivious of its slipping rider.

Finally, giving up her frail grip, the blond attempts to leap away from the horse and throw herself to safety.

Unfortunately, her foot has become entangled in the stirrup, she is now at the mercy of the horse's pounding hooves as her head is struck against the ground over and over.

As her head is battered against the ground, she is mere moments away from unconsciousness when to her great fortune...................... Frank, the Wal-Mart greeter, sees her dilemma and unplugs the horse.

Well, just finished reading through all these posts. What a diverse group of women we are. Yet, we have so much in common. The creativity that comes out of us in unique ways ... jewelry, poetry, writing, gardening, jigsaw puzzles, weaving, quilts, scrapbooks, antiques ... and all so busy.

My favorite thing to do is ... hmmm ... I guess write and photography even though they cross over into my career, as it were.

At one time I was on the fast track in the writing, journalistic, and marketing world and then had a stroke. That was ten years ago. I was blessed in an almost total recovery EXCEPT I can no longer work full-time and I suffer under stress. In the worst of situations you might think I was drunk ... that pretty well describes it. But that seems to happen less frequently now.

God is my anchor and my touchstone. Without Him I would be dead, plain and simple. He's kept me sane and I know when I've wandered too far because I become the "crazy lady." LOL. Still, He is the only thing that brings balance and peace into my life.

Being here in Germany was the most difficult decision I've ever made. I DID NOT want to leave my daughter, grandchildren and Arizona. My marriage was disintegrating and so we thought time apart might help. Of course, God had different plans. So, in obedience to His leading, I came here and the first 3 months were the saddest, loneliest times I've ever spent. A good day was one when I didn't cry. But, God knew what He was doing (doesn't he always).

Since coming here I completed my novel and it's due out next month. I've gotten to see so many wonderful places over here, taken more than a thousand photos, and have used the experiences for a travel column. But most importantly, God healed my marriage and also brought me closer to Him.

I too love to read and was encouraged to find many of you have several books going at once. I love jigsaw puzzles ... when I'm really "antsy" I can work on one and it seems to help calm me down.

I used to do cross stitch and crafts but they are harder for me to do now (eyesight and eye/hand coordination are challenging).

I'm inspired by all you gals do. Your lives seem to have a gentle cadence and rhythm (and maybe sometimes not so gentle) but still ... there is something comforting in every post I've read here.

The more time I spend here, the more comfortable I feel both with each of you but with myself.

Hugs and blessings, Francine

Francine, so glad to hear God took you from the valley to the mountaintop in your marriage and relationship with Him. Congrats on the near publiscation of your book. Germany has been good to you.

My daughter and I have a new hobby. We've begun jigsaw puzzles. It can be addictive if you're on a roll. It's a fun way to connect and spend time with her. She's 17, had a job and a boyfriend so I feel blessed that this is something she enjoys doing.

I'm so glad you are feeling more comfortable with yourself since arriving at BWS. Love's what makes the world go around...and that's what we do here, love one another! Thanks for your part in encouraging and supporting other boomer women!

Dotsie, I just read your original post on this thread and now I'm tired. How do you do all that and still have time for this website? [Smile]

I, too, spend a lot of my free time with my family. I love to shop, read and of course, write. I'm almost always online. I love emailing and updating my website. My daughter and I do scrapbooking, but I haven't done anything with that for a while. I bounce back and forth with several hobbies. I was making jewelry for a while, but that's sort of on a back burner right now. My new dollhouse is taking up some of my time.

I love taking pictures. My husband and I travel more now. We have the Disney Vacation Club and go twice a year. Other than that, we love going to the coast of southern Maine and up north to the White Mountain area. Last summer, we went to Vegas, which was the furthest I've ever been in my whole life. We're hoping to go to Hawaii in another year or so, when he retires.

Our favorite close to home thing to do is just sit out on our deck and enjoy a warm summer night. We did that last night. It was great.
