Record snowfall and freezing temperatures in the UK according to the news. Hoping all our sisters over there are safe and warm!

YONUH,
I know what you mean; I hope they're safe too. The weather here
is a bit odd as well. The temps keep fluctuating!

Here, too, Jabber. The lows are in the 30s with 25 predicted Monday night - too cold for me! Yesterday's high was 70 but then will be mid to low 50s Mon & Tues. Crazy weather!

Mountain Ash, I hope this mess is all gone by next weekend! I've seen the pictures and video, and it doesn't look very good. Although freshly fallen snow makes the landscape sparkle and looks beautiful, it does create headaches for those who have to go out in it.

Thanks Yonuh

Will be disappointed not to travel..its a Victorian Christmas celebration in a Cathedral town (Durham) and has been a highlight in the past..
a truely lovely experience..children walk with candles in the dark up the wining road just as darkness falls..nativity with a donkey..carols and crafters..and for foodies..wow.
I hope to buy gifts at the venue in the square.

So fingers crossed...

Thanks, Yonuh. We're trying to keep as cosy as we can. Temp was down to -17C in some parts. I dread going to work this week because apart from the cold snap, we have a tube strike early in the week, as well as another round of student protests. All could mean a long hike until one could hail a cab home...if one is lucky enough.

Hi, Lola. I read about the tube strike and thought about you. Here's hoping you get where you're going and back home without incident.

I can picture that candle at dusk parade. I bet that's beautiful.
And,hope the weather cooperates in a gentler fashion with you ladies across the pond.
Lola,
Hope events around the strike goes as you'd like them to.
Prayers and blessings.

All schools are closed and 650 travellers had to sleep in a community centre in a town not far away. Some people
were in vechicles for 16 hours..
minus 16 in the Highlands.
Lorries had jack knifed and closed snow bound roads and the ploughs are unable to clear the road..trees fall due to heavy snow and put the power cables off..
This is a very early start to winter .Depends on what the continent blows in next..
Lola
saw the commuters on the news in London and thought of you.
least no snow was lying there.hope you coped .

Scotland is a whole different ball game..and there are people worse off than we are

The socialist that I am, I really do not begrudge the tube strike but, cold snap + tube strike = mad

Tomorrow will be cold snap + students protest march = mad because it means all those making their way around London tomorrow will encounter road and tube station closures...worse still, anarchic students in public transport.

Stay warm y'all. And for those lucky with balmy weather...I envy you.

Where are those germs when you need them. How nice if you could call in sick with a runny nose.

Stay warm, Lola!

Mountain Ash: HAPPY ST ANDREW'S DAY!!! Hope you are not too inconvenienced by the odd weather and are stocked up well with provisions. Went to the shop and came across a woman with over 2 dozen boxes of PG at the till. Mighty lot of tea for one household, I reckon.

Keeping warm and decided to be house-bound today, EW. Thanks! Glued to the telly at the moment...watching students protestors play cat and mouse with the police in Central London.

It has been soooo cold here in the Nevada desert. Low 50's in the daytime with no sunshine and high winds, then nightime is even worse, blustery winds and down below freezing. I have been leaving a faucet running slowly in the back bathroom so trhe water has travel all along the house to go all through the plumbing before draining into the sewer beneath the street. The only snow can be seen atop the mountains that surround the city.

We had a couple of cold days here, too. Monday the high didn't even reach 50 then got down to around 23 overnight. Fortunately it's warming up - 80s by the weekend. Snow is beautiful to look at, but I don't want to have to shovel it again - ever. But still nothing like they're having in northern Europe and the UK - parts of the US, too.

yonuh,
This WNY area just had the craziest storm. There was a small
span, which had three feet of snow and outer areas received
inches. A few city suburbs were at a standstill and the city
proper got nothing. Folks were stranded on the thruway for
huge amounts of time and other streets were clear. Go figure!
