I can remember back in the mid-late 60s, you could only get a prescription if you were going to be married within a couple of months. Of course, there were ways to get around that restriction! smile

There was also quite a brouhaha from lawmakers - birth control was such a threat to them. They were outraged that women wouldn't want to be 'barefoot and pregnant' and tied to the home. It took some time, but thank goodness things are a little different now.

I remember taking the pill for the first time. I thought it was one of the best inventions ever.

Speaking of elastic, rubber bands are a great invention too.

And humor? You invented that JJ.

What about music...isn't that just the greatest invention? And forums, too. Otherwise, we'd all be talking to ourselves. LOL!

It's hard to imagine what life was like for women back before the invention of "The Pill." It certainly was a game changing invention.

What do you think has impacted our lives today as significantly as The Pill did our youth?

Free and acceptable abortions. Some of these gals use abortion like birth control, "Oh, I'm pregnant again, what a bother, well off to the butcher to kill another one!"

Makes a decent person especially one wanting to have a child so badly, want to vomit... Unsympathetic, convenient abortions are something that impact so many lives especially those that never get a chance to have a life.

I took the pill, when it first showed up in the '60S. Now they're talking about Viagra for women! What a hoot!

It greatly saddens me that 40 million very young American men and women were snuffed out over the last few decades.

Having said that as a Christian nurse who believes in our Constitutional guarantee of LIFE, liberty and the pusuit of happiness for everyone, I DO believe in the use of the birth control pill, and also the "morning after" pill, which is given within a few hours of sex.

We've come a long way from the days of the Roman Empire, and even the archaic days of our youth, when so little was known about babies doing very well being born even super early.

I worked OB-GYN for 15 years, and I can tell you that fetal surgery technology is fabulous.

I celebrate any method of birth control decided upon by young women and men in conjunction with their trusted healthcare proessional, which does not infringe upon the rights of young men and women "on the inside and growing."

PS: I do not support government involvement in such matters.

Just my opinion......

Yes, I saw recent articles about Viagra for women. hahaha I wonder if they'll have commercials advising women to seek immediate medical attention if their "lips" stand straight up for more than 4 hours.

Josie,
That was a good one! I never saw a man, with any part, which could stand straight for four hours. Even men laugh at those
commercials! Wonder who the kook was that wrote that???

Probably the kook who wrote that "interesting warning" was given quite a "raise" in salary. Look how many paid attention to that part and now take Viagra. hahaha

The ad where 2 adults, each have their own bathtub beside the seashore, is a hoot. Anybody know folks' with a setup like that?

Josie, what a hoot.

I do not have the two tub set-up, but would prefer one big tub!

I know of no one including myself, who would risk mosquitoes, bird poop and bees, just to sit outside naked. In separate tubs. In any location. For any reason. hahaha

...... We have a grand jacuzzi in our master bathroom, which I thought would make for some romantic evenings. So one night soon after we first moved into our new home, I got the candles out, put some "easy-listenin" music on, and filled up the tub with scented water & bubbles for an evening with hubby.... Neither one of us counted on the on/off jacuzzi switch to be located on the other side of the bathroom. So hubby had to get out, turn the jacuzzi on, and climb back into a large tub, which now made our wrinkles vibrate, and it sounded like a loud train motor. He tried to shout "I love you"...... while I was shouting junior obscenities for him to turn that darn motor off.

Needless to say, we've never turned the jacuzzi on since. And he and I ended up fighting that night about whose idea it was to buy "that thing" for our new home. lol

So much for boomer-romance in a tub.

OMG...you're non-adventure sounds like something that would happen to me. I'm sorry, but I had to giggle. I hope you two did later!

I have never liked those tubs. They feel like a small boat with no oars and the motors are so loud, as you know. They're great if you want a bubble-bath sans the man. But anything else...no thanks.

Josie,
That was an amusing story. We have an ordinary size tub with a
jacuzzi; WB installed it shortly after we moved in here, 25 years ago. I use it now and again, he never uses it. I have friends who have a huge, many person can fit in, jacuzzi on their second floor. But the thing is, heated water breeds germs; so who wants anyone but the people who own the thing to be sitting in there, to begin with? Not me! No thanks!

That commercial with those dual tubs beside the seashore seems
crazy to me. So does that one where people are hitting each other when a certain type of car drives passed. That's kookie!
They hit the person beside them as hard as they can. Anyone
hit me that hard, I'd be gone, never to return!

The "Pill" was my nemesis.

Doctors used it to "cover" my endometriosis. For years and years when I complained of severe bleeding/cramps etc. all they did was hand me a prescription for the PILL. All it did was mask the problems I truly had.

Then a great doctor finally had me undergo some tests only to find that it was "too late" to save my reproductive organs. The endo had diseased all of my insides and it all came out in a flash.

So..the PILL never did me any good. frown

Jabber, I totally agree with you and I used to own a VW. Well, me and the bank. But I hate that commercial. It is a remake of one years and years ago. It wasn't funny then, it ain't now.

Di, that is so horrible. I too suffered as you did but once I was on the Pill, it wasn't so bad. After my second son though, it increased, as endometriosis will. I have to have a HERstorectomy, too. I'm sorry you went through this.

I think my Mother had endo as well. Back then, in the early 70's she was "hemorrhaging"; hence a hysterectomy. But this was after she gave birth to us four kids.
