Hello everyone! I'm starting to suffer from hearing loss and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a good brand of hearing aid. Thank you!

My uncle was experiencing hearing loss in one ear and went to the doctor who promptly cleaned out his ears. He said he heard something clink when it hit the metal pan. The thing clinking was wax rolled into a almost round shape about the size of the tip of our little finger, hard as a rock. It had probably been building for years. Just a suggestion as to another cause of deafness.

So after speaking with some friends, they recommended the following:

Miracle Ear and Lyric Hearing. I've heard of Miracle Ear but not Lyric Hearing. Anyone familiar with that one?

My brother is an audiologist in Virginia. I just sent him an email to ask and will let you know what he says.

Here's what he said:

Most of the brands are good but I'll mention some names of ones I like. Oticon, Phonak, Unitron, Widex, ReSound, Interton. If she is approaching 80 I would stay away from Resound and Interton for technical reasons that would bore you if I explained it all.

But what is much more important is WHO she gets to fit the devices. Training can range all the way from pre-college to masters (me) to doctorate. Bottom line is, get an audiologist who has more than five years full time experience with hearing aids.
