Inprisoned children

Inprisoned children - 01/24/06 04:57 AM

Did anyone see on the news where they found 2 children that had been chained and locked in a bathroom for at least five years? The girl somehow escaped and was seen pushing a shopping cart and thought to be around 8 years old. Upon further investigation she was discovered to actually be 16 and her brother still captive was 11. The grandmother, mother and boyfriend are now in jail. They said the kids were mentally challenged and if allowed free would eat up all the food. Can you imagine a 16 year old only the size of an 8 year old child? If you've never written a letter of disgust before, do it now pleaseto Kenny Guinn the Governor. This happened in Carson City, NV just last week. Shameful!!!

Chatty,,
I didn't see it on TV about those children
but this horrible , just horrible . I saw a show on TV on cable about these two women in Calif that started a group for a safe place for children to go called Child Help and they have a told free number to call where you can donate money to help these children that are abused . These women try to keep these kids from going back to the abusive parents.

Those children have been through so much you wonder if they will every live a normal life again. thanks for sharing Chatty.

People never cease to amaze me with this kind of behavior. How could you live with yourself...knowing. How does anyone do this?
I'll never understand.

Some people are just mean and evil. I believe there will be a special spot in hell for child abusers.

Re: Inprisoned children - 01/25/06 08:03 AM

I'll never understand this kind of behavior, either. Cruelty to children is something that disturbs me more than almost anything. Especially to impaired children who are unable to fend for themselves and need the most loving care of all. I pray these children are getting that sort of care now.

Re: Inprisoned children - 01/24/06 09:21 PM

I want to think this is a rare occurence, something which happened because a couple who were so deficient in intelligence they did not comprehend what they were doing.....

But, we know so called 'tourists' travel from north america and europe to asian pacific countries for sex with children,we know there are children in north america and europe being used for sexual exploitation...we know there are children in so called 'normal situations' living in fear because of various 'adult' behavior, we know there are children still working as labourers in abominable conditions ....

Often i give up ... no way is life worth the price some have to pay .. i and mine may be safe, but who can be blind and deaf to the pain of others? Sure, we each try to make whatever difference we can ...... but i think if it isn't known by now how to treat each other, after so many thousands of years that people have walked this earth.... it will never be different.... but how can we turn a blind eye, and give up.......

You take one day at a time and one step at a time and bit by bit, try to make a difference.

Re: Inprisoned children - 01/24/06 10:24 PM

Good philosophy, Dianne. It seems there have always been evil people around, and the news loves to tell us about folks doing horrible things to each other. I don't really understand why they think this is either entertaining or enlightening.

Doing what little I can to make a difference helps keep me sane.

Re: Inprisoned children - 01/25/06 12:36 AM

There was a newspaper once that decided to only print good news. It went out of business very quickly. People like gore, violence and the horrible things that happen to other people and I think it's because many of them haven't experienced such events and are curious. Like driving by a car accident and not looking. Most of us slow down and stare. As humans, often we are lacking in compassion.

Re: Inprisoned children - 01/25/06 02:54 AM

I'm afraid you're right, Dianne. Sometimes it seems to be getting worse instead of better. I'm one of those people who turns their head and doesn't want to look when I see a car accident. But I guess I'm in the minority.

Re: Inprisoned children - 01/25/06 03:40 AM

I can't look and refuse to look. I can't stand seeing anyone suffer, mamed or killed. I can't even watch those slasher or torture movies they keep making because they are "NOT" just movies anymore and fuel the insanity within the mindless, cruel evil beings out there looking to hurt and kill others. This and porn needs to be wiped off the face of this earth forever... [Mad]

Re: Inprisoned children - 01/25/06 05:35 AM

Do any of you remember "clockwork orange'? That was the first movie i walked out of, so angry at the brutality .... I can understand people stunned and continuing to witness a horrific and true event unfolding, hearts go out in compassion and pain for those hurting .... but i can not for the life of me, understand those who watch or produce movies which seem to include violence for the sake of adding some perverted thrill, or those who spend hours at certain video games, pretending to kick another's head in.

I wonder at times, why some people are so shocked at certain events, when in part, the very things that they find appalling in reality, they enjoy watching, or playing at, for entertainment.

Re: Inprisoned children - 01/25/06 06:30 AM

I remember the movie, Norma, and I remember feeling physically ill, and burying my head in the pillow.
The case of the monster who raped that little girl in Vermont and only got 60 days in prison has made headline news and has outraged most of America. But I don't see much being done about it either, just talk. Perhaps if the judges daughter had been the one raped, God forbid!!.. he might feel differently.

Re: Inprisoned children - 01/25/06 06:45 AM

I just finished reading a book called "Too Soon Old Too Late Smart " by Gordon Livingston, MD. he is a pychiatrist a local doctor here . He said in one of the chapters he talked about the different forums of abuse

Also, one thing he did mention in a chapter that when we talk about the past was better then now. Often this is not true , for there were abusive parents then and more crime then and a lot more illnessnes and more children died then they do now . For one thing we never talked about abuse when I grew up or who did you go too and you hear more about crimes because of the TV .

Just some interesting thoughts . I did enjoy reading this book with only 168 pages .

Re: Inprisoned children - 01/25/06 10:40 AM

I think the author of the book you mentioned Renee, is correct. In ten thousand ways it is better today then ever before. I tend to forget that when i hear of something too terrible to be really true. But extreme criminal actions make headlines, precisely because they are not the norm.

Hello countrygirl, i am glad to meet you....the words under your post remind me of the wonderful 'Beaver' motto our grandsons recited when they were little .... "I promise to love God and take care of the world." So simple, and yet so powerful........

Re: Inprisoned children - 01/25/06 09:17 PM

I've gotten to the point where I won't watch movies with gratuatous violence in them. We have enough terrible things that really happen in the world. Why Hollywood wants to capitalize on them is beyond me. It puzzles me more the number of people who enjoy these movies, which is why they continue to be made.

I agree that there was always abuse, which probably was worse then because nobody talked or did anything about it. I may not like to watch the news reports about it, but I do pay attention.

Re: Inprisoned children - 01/25/06 10:42 PM

Chatty... I was watching one of crime shows the other night. They had a Amber alert for Vegas...and showed a moving billboard.
I thought that was such a great idea.
Do you see those often? Have they been a help in locating criminals?

Re: Inprisoned children - 01/26/06 02:20 AM

Yepthatsme2, they found this baby girl in a dumpster a week or so ago, she was about 3 years old and NO ONE knows who she is. She looked like a doll clad in lavendar pants, top and a pretty little white fur jacket with red furry hearts. They have had two memorial services for the child they call Baby "Cordova" Doe....Cordova is the name of the apartment complex where the dumpster was. Hundreds of teddy bears, toys, flowers and candles now sit at the site. She had been beaten to death. She was featured on America Most Wanted last Sunday night and John Walsh was in town doing the story. They are using those mobile billboards all around town in case some people haven't seen the news or TV show. As of this morning she is still unidentified.

Re: Inprisoned children - 01/26/06 06:17 PM

We have the moving billboards/amber alerts in Nashville. The minute a child goes missing, it's posted with any information they might have such as car that was seen taking her.

My heart crys out for these children who are thrown away like todays trash. Like they aren't human. Strange that this little girl was dressed so cutely.

Re: Inprisoned children - 01/27/06 08:12 AM

My brother-inlaw was part of the team that developed the scrolling billboard you see on TV and the billboards for the Amber alert. Isn't that cool? I'm proud he was part of this worthy cause. So proud. God save the children!

Re: Inprisoned children - 01/27/06 08:35 AM

Oh my! Where are the parents of this three yr. old? Scary [Eek!] ! No relatives?? My stomach turns thinking people have turned into monsters who don't care for anyone but themselves.

And the entertainment industry is much to blame for it all, promoting violence, porn, and junk [Mad] !!!

About the kids locked in the bathroom... Sadly, not every person who concieves a child can be called "mother". And to know that other relatives are involved too is extremely aggravating! I do pray these kids get chance to have a better life now!

Re: Inprisoned children - 01/27/06 04:54 AM

They are afraid that they may never find out the identity of the child in the dumpster. She may have been the child of illegals and left behind when injured or kidnapped elsewhere and left here. Its hard to imagine someone who did dress their child so cutely wouldn't report her missing. I'll keep you posted....

About the 2 kids locked in the bathroom. I saw a picture of the mother, father and grandmother and I was almost nuts...all three were huge, big and fat and looked as if they never missed a meal. They also looked like three people you would not want to meet in a dark parking lot, very scary looking. The 16 year old girl weighed in a 42 pounds, can you imagine that??? The agency taking care of them now says it will take many many months for these kids to gain strength and health enough to be placed in foster care. Those guilty of this abuse said they locked them in the bathroom so they wouldn't eat up 'all' the food. Huh, I;'m sure they meant eat ANY food. I hope they go to prison forever.

Re: Inprisoned children - 01/27/06 06:19 PM

Not only will they go to prison, they will be abused in prison. As raunchy as some prisoners are, they all hate child abusers and do seriously bad things to them and the guards turn and look the other way so there is justice.

Re: Inprisoned children - 01/28/06 04:49 AM

Good, I sincerely hope so. Its too bad they couldn't starve them for 5 long painful years as they did to there two children...

UPDATE: On little Jane "Cordova" Doe. As a last resort the Sheriffs office had a photographer take a photo of the child herself. They warned us on TV that if we were squeemish not to look. I was surprised to see the face of an Angel, she didn't appear to be dead at all. It was hard to hold back the tears to think of all that she has endured in her short life. I wanted to reach out and hug her tiny little body. They said there were signs of ongoing abuse...Never before has a case had such attention and so many tirelessly working to find answers....

Re: Inprisoned children - 01/28/06 06:57 PM

Bless her little soul. That just breaks my heart.

So, maybe these are people from another area who dumped her while going through town? I sincerely hope some relative or neighbor sees that picture and calls in.

Please keep us posted.

Re: Inprisoned children - 01/30/06 02:50 AM

I will...Its been 2 full weeks now and still no definite leads....Just doesn't seem possible a child can just appear and belong to no one.

Re: Inprisoned children - 01/30/06 03:20 AM

I pray someone has a heart big enough to report her missing. I can't imagine a mother, wether illegal or not, just turning away from the fact that her child is missing and not reporting it [Confused] . Unless, the mother was killed too... Nowadays, nothing can't be ruled out!
