My friend Nellie - 01/09/07 08:11 PM

Girls, here is the newest member of my ventriloquist family. She is my Christmas gift. Her name is Nellie (my Mom's nickname). Nellie, the older Boomer needs a slight makeover before we hit the road of course. We are hoping to make our debut at one of the major conVENTions this year. We're considering the Boomer ones also. Wish us luck.

Hi, Nellie! Chick, what a wonderful talent you have! I am still so fascinated by ventriloquism and puppetry. What fun it must be to be able to have that talent. Can you video Nellie and post here?

Re: My friend Nellie - 01/09/07 09:04 PM

JJ, which conventions are you attending this year?

Lola what a great idea, now how do I do that? Also, who's the chief on fixing the pics. Nellie looks , well how shall I say, outta sorts...

Bet you didn't know I was a professional poker player either...It's how I make my living right now. Well, this is my day for letting out secrets isn't it???

Chick: You can video him and upload on YouTube then just post the URL here. Can't wait! Oh, does Nellie go to parties, schools etc. You never know who's browsing and might want to invite her to come. Nellie looks fine from where I am.

Gee Chick, guess you can say you're laying the cards on the table.

You're sure full of surprises.
Polka player and a ventriliquist? Now that combination could come in handy.

Who said "fold"????..Was it the person next to you ....or not?!

Chick,

What delightful surprises! Sounds like you have a fun and exciting life. Now for a serious question...will Nellie be posting here as well as you? LOL

Jane,
Nellie and Bertha need to talk, ha ha.

Hannelore, I was going to take Nellie to the tournament last night but decided against it. I won by the way. Finished 6th place out of 150 players. Texas Holdem...World Poker Tour watch out. Boomer Woman on the rise, ha ha.

Re: My friend Nellie - 01/09/07 10:34 PM

Whoa...there now. Professional as in doing it for a living.

I am not quite that well known (yet) Tell your boys that I know Scotty Nguyen personally. The next time he is in town, I will get a signed photo for them. PM me the details, names etc.

I play online and have won 1st place tournaments with 10,000 players registered, many times. That's where I practise. Do your boys play online?

Last night I played a 'seniors' tournament....sigh.
But I won!

I live 3 minutes from the casino so work is not that far, I can go any hour of the day and leave when I want to. Great Job, lol.

Hi Chick - are you in Norman, or where abouts in Oklahoma? I'll be in Ada at the end of July.

I think I would love playing poker for a living, but I guess I prefer the games we play around the table instead of Texas Holdem.

By the way, send me Nellie's original image and I'll get her fixed up for ya.

Re: My friend Nellie - 01/10/07 04:22 AM

Oh jeeze, I can just see us if we all meet in Vegas. A whole group sitting at the slots for hours, then eating at a huge buffet, then chick taking us over to the poker table to play with the big boys - what fun!! No, JJ, play POKER with the big boys... whatever were you thinking??

Re: My friend Nellie - 01/10/07 07:15 AM

Same thing the rest of these broads were thinking! teehee....

Count me in! You know....it sounds like MORE and MORE that we are gearing up for a big meeting in Vegas...anyone else getting that feeling in the air?

Re: My friend Nellie - 01/10/07 01:00 PM

They do play online Chick. And according to them, do pretty well but I don't know the exact places they've come in. I will ask them. Right now it seems to be their favorite pass time.
Thanks!

Re: My friend Nellie - 01/10/07 03:31 PM

Wow Chick! First of all, Nellie is VERY professional. My word, girl, you have so much talent!

Second, you play poker? I've never gotten the hang of it. I've tried the slot poker but to me, it's like watching paint dry. I tried black jack and it bored me too. I must like the noise and action of the slots. Even tried craps but too many rules to understand. Can you say the words, Simple Minded?

I don't know about the rest of you but I'm serious about all of us meeting in Vegas for a boomer week end. They have so many cheap flights there. Shall we seriously plan this venture?
Posted by: Edelweiss

Re: My friend Nellie - 01/10/07 04:49 PM

Chick, actually you are just the person I want to talk to.

My son has been playing poker on-line, and goes to a casino in Muenich. He was up there on the charts as well. I'm just afraid that he's getting addicted. I mean he brings his daughter to us for over nights, so he can play! (My DIL plays professional sports and is away sometimes for a week.) He won 800 Euros last weekend, and says he can't lose more than 10 Euros. Is this true? If it is, then I might just try my luck at this too. Ha ha, anyone want to take our grandbaby for a weekend?

Seriously, he is sort of impulsive. He's just started a fantastic new job, has his little family, and I'm just wondering if this is the right way for him to earn extra cash. Have you seen any people get really ruined by this on-line polka? Please tell me how it is.

Re: My friend Nellie - 01/10/07 07:02 PM

Thanks girls, you know how to keep me encouraged.

Dianne, Nellie is a professional dummy and I have several but she's my newest edition.

Poker, Hannelore....I don't play for real money online. It is where I practise with Play money. I have won real money from playing free tournaments(freerolls) online just the same. I cannot read a person across the table online so I don't waste my money. (my view only)

Ask your son if he has a journal, bookeeping, etc.and How much he gets paid an hour, week, month. He should be able to answer you Immediately.

TVC, do they play Sit and Go or tournaments?

What date are we talking for Vegas...I might enter a game or two. Is it when they're having the Convention?

I think I better pull out the basic black and accessories, lol.

Re: My friend Nellie - 01/10/07 07:12 PM

Thanks for the suggestion Chick. I will ask him about journaling his time and money. Great tip.

Oh my, if you all go to Vegas, I'll have to come too! I wouldn't miss it for the world. It's just not such a short trip for me ...geez, I got to sell a house.

Re: My friend Nellie - 01/10/07 07:29 PM

Hi, Hannelore: How long is the flight from Germany to the West Coast? It's 7 hours tops from London to NY.
Posted by: Edelweiss

Re: My friend Nellie - 01/10/07 08:57 PM

Lola, about 16 to 23 hours hours till I'm in Las Vegas. That's because I would have to change flights. I couldn't find any direct flight....but I did find a site with fairly cheap flights: They are fairly new, and it's said their crashes are limited.

"No Frills" Airline.

All the planes have both a bathroom and a chapel.

Before you take off, the stewardess tells you to write your last will.

When they pull the steps away, the plane starts rocking.

The Captain yells at the ground crew to get the cows off the runway.

No movie. Don't need one. Your life keeps flashing before your eyes.

You see a man with a gun, but he's demanding to be let off the plane.

What do you think? Should I fly with them?

Re: My friend Nellie - 01/10/07 10:41 PM

Sounds like a risk, Hannelore. How big of a risk taker are you?

Could be fun, if it's cheap enough.

I don't know why but I am getting such a kick out of this post. And I am in on the Vegas trip. Let me see if I can come up with a date.

Re: My friend Nellie - 01/11/07 04:20 AM

Chickadee, you're the first ventriloquist I've had the pleasure of meeting, even if it's "just" online. Say hello to Nellie for me

Vegas is a 5-hour drive from here. Just not in the summer, OK? It's even hotter than SoCali, if that's possible

Re: My friend Nellie - 01/11/07 09:19 PM

Meredith, you are the only poet laureate and professional jewely maker that I know.

Re: My friend Nellie - 01/12/07 05:07 PM

Hi Chick, I'm pretty sure they do both. They can sit there for hours playing. I think the site is called Party Poker. I worry about it sometimes like Hannalore. I don't want them to become hopeless losers or addicted to it. My 24 year old has been playing for years, at games and online. He and his friends started playing in the 3rd grade, for pretzels...LOL So far, he seems to be able to handle it. My youngest will be 17 and he started a couple years ago. He's been told by grown men that he's pretty good.

PS And by the way, both of you are the only pro poker player, ventriloquist and poet laureate, jewelry maker that I know too!
That's what I love about this site! We are all so different and yet all so much alike!

Re: My friend Nellie - 01/13/07 01:52 AM

I didn't know you are a ventriloquist. That's so cool! I just love Nellie.

Are you girls really going to Vegas? I love Vegas, but we just went in Sept. It's too long a trip for me. I can only do it once every couple of years. Not to mention the slots. Say hello to my money while you are there.
Posted by: Edelweiss

Re: My friend Nellie - 01/13/07 11:01 AM

Chick, I just remembered a fantastic Ventriloquist show we visited in Las Vegas (about 14 years ago). The puppeteer conversed with his oversized parrot.

While talking he'd wave his hand about, and sometimes touched the parrots feet.
That caused the parrot to squawk each time, "Don't touch my feet!"
It came off very funny, the place was rocking from laughter.

I was just thinking if you have Nellie as a boomer, you could sort
of use this idea, but instead of 'Don't touch my feet', you could have
her say" Watch out for those corns!" or "Give me a foot massage",
or something along that line.

My kids used to squawk that line for years afterwards.

Re: My friend Nellie - 01/13/07 04:11 PM

Louisa, wouldn't it be more like saying good by to your money? That's how it usually happens. Those beautiful resorts weren't built by winners.

I would go to Vegas for sure. Yeah, Summer is too hot...our shoes would melt to the sidewalks.
Posted by: Dancing Dolphin

Re: My friend Nellie - 01/13/07 04:41 PM

I understand what Louisa meant. We go, we lose (leave) our money there, so when we go back to Vegas... we visit our money that we left there the last time.

Re: My friend Nellie - 01/13/07 10:00 PM

Hannelore, thanks for the suggestion. I'll see if I can work it into my act.

Kathy, you did a great job on Nellie's pic. Thank you for taking the time. I owe ya one.

Re: My friend Nellie - 01/13/07 10:32 PM

Does this mean we get visitation rights to the money we lost there?
Posted by: Louisa

Re: My friend Nellie - 01/13/07 11:32 PM

Diane, When they say "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas," they mean our money. I laready said goodbye to it. I meant for those of you who go, to say hello to it. I doubt you'll see it though. But, you'll probably leave some of yours to keep mine company.

Re: My friend Nellie - 01/17/07 08:59 AM

I absolutely love the decor -- this is what you could do if you had a 5 BILLION $$ decorating budget -- and am very aware of where this decorating budget came from! I guess I'm too practical to be much of a gambler.

Re: My friend Nellie - 01/17/07 03:15 PM

Sit me in front of a slot machine and let her rip, tater chip....I love those dang things. I think I like them so much because its a mindless game. I can sit there, play the reels, think about everything under the sun, and relax. If I win, more the better.

I love it. Count me in.

Re: My friend Nellie - 02/11/07 03:34 AM

How cool a ventriloquist among our midst! Chick, you have to do a command performance for this forum! We want an emblematic skit here...
Posted by: Dianne

Re: My friend Nellie - 02/11/07 03:51 PM

I love the slots too. I don't like the poker slots tho. It's like watching paint dry. Boring.

I wonder if I could use The Secret before going to Vegas? I am going to win a million bucks...I am. Visualize it, see it, believe it.

When I was small there was a ventriliquist show on the RADIO..in the UK.
I am not kidding. It was called Educating Archie.
Did you have these in the US or Canada.

I just sent this link on to a couple of friends and my brother. Too funny!!!
Is Nellie a grumpy female version?
Posted by: chickadee

Re: My friend Nellie - 02/12/07 01:15 PM

Isn't Walter a Hoot! Nellie is taking on a life of her own so I'm still not sure where we'll end up in the long run. This is what happens to vent characters. You practise and practise and everything just automatically falls into place. There's no turning back then. She won't be as crude as Walter in her language but she may get away with one or two not so offcolour words.
