I'm afraid of godaddy.com

I'm afraid of godaddy.com - 11/13/06 11:13 PM

I've settled on a web site name but they ask so many questions on godaddy.com I'm afraid to start. They offer a ton of free things...do you take them all just because they offer them? They don't have a toll-free number so how do you ask questions? I can't believe I'm so not in this century yet!

Saundra, what are you trying to accomplish? Are you trying to establish your domain name? I went through what you are going through, trying to do it all myself. It drove me crazy. You have to devote hours to getting this done if you do it yourself. I used iPowerweb. I built my site through their services too. And, there is an 800 number if you are willing to wait forever.

Re: I'm afraid of godaddy.com - 11/14/06 01:40 AM

Yes, Lynnie, I want a domain name so someone can build my web site, and I want to be able to put it in my book on the author's page. I was told godaddy is the easiest. A computer person told me that - I'm going to strangle him. He's too busy to help.

Try register.com. That's another site where you can register domain names.

Saundra, are you interested in using a seb designer? I have a great one and she gives 20% off to NABBW members.

Saundra, if I could have afforded it I would have used Dotsie's recommendation when I was setting up my site. I also got lots of suggestions from our boomer sisters. I ended up using ipower.com for building my site myself. godaddy is pretty new to me. I don't know anything about it, not that I would.

Re: I'm afraid of godaddy.com - 11/14/06 03:18 AM

Saundra, godaddy is one of the cheapest out there for domain names. I use them for many of my clients. They do have a phone number, but it's not toll free. You can order your domain and just say NO to all of their offers.

And just because you got your domain name there, doesn't mean you have to host your site there - although they are cheap and reliable with that as well.

No matter who you use, print out all receipts and email documentation, and add your username and password. Even though you think you'll remember it, you may not down the road right when you need it most.

Saundra, I use GoDaddy for my domain name and for my server. I've never had any problems with them. I have called a few times, (480) 505-8877 and always get great response.

Thanks everyone. Hey, Dotsie, what's an seb? Am I supposed to know about that too? Yes, I'll talk to anyone willing to talk to me if I can understand their language!

I think she meant "web" as in web designer...

Oh. Okay, even I laughed at that one. I might be taking this too seriously so needed the laugh.

As you ladies know, I do not edit my posts. That would take forever.

Spoke with Kathy and two web designers and received an education I couldn't have paid for. Still don't know everything, but think I found the one. He's local so I can put my hands around his throat if I have too. Thank you everone. I couldn't have done it without you!

Re: I'm afraid of godaddy.com - 11/17/06 03:42 PM

I hope that all of you have noticed that our very own KATHY WALSH (Rick and June) is ALWAYS offering her own knowledge, free of charge, and services, to everyone and anyone who needs it. Is this the kind of friend you want? I know I do. What an unselfish person.

Kathy obviously, does not operate with a competitive mind or one that would step all over the competition to rise above, but with a solid heart. I predict she will always do good in her business because good things will return to her, threefold. I'm so proud to be able to call her friend!

I hope you all support HER in her business when you can. I know I intend to!

YOU ROCK KATHY!

Wow, how nice JJ! But please note that Kathy gets embarrassed by too much of this sort of attention. In fact, she's blushing so much right now that I had to write this message for her, which is doggone hard with only paws to use! Thank you for the kind comments.

Love, Luke
(Kathy's Fat Beagle)

PS: JJ, give Trixie a lick for me. Luke

Re: I'm afraid of godaddy.com - 11/17/06 04:13 PM

Luke wants his picture up too, but I told him since he was a male he couldn't actually be a member. Man, was he mad! He told me that's doggie discrimination! So I said okay, I'll put your picture up!!

Meet Luke:

Yikes! I'd do anything he asks me to do!

Re: I'm afraid of godaddy.com - 11/17/06 05:31 PM

He's actually a sweet, lazy bum. He was lying on his back on the floor when my son took a picture of him. We realized that if we turned the pic upside down it looked like he was flying, so I did that and made a new background for it.

Re: I'm afraid of godaddy.com - 11/17/06 05:38 PM

I actually just stood up, walked around my desk and looked at my computer screen from behind. Your right! Luke looks friendly that way!

Kathy is not only generous, but clever as well. I can't wait to use her services. I am figuring out what I need right now. I really trust her, and I trust her judgement. Boomer Sisters rock and roll!

Re: I'm afraid of godaddy.com - 11/18/06 07:04 AM

Oh BELIEVE ME there is no need to be afraid of Godaddy.com
I have two names with them and have a free website at tripod dot com as I am basically computer illiterate!
If I can do it, you can do it.

I have used them for over 5 years and have never had a problem with them.
I use tripod for my website as that is also very simple to use as I don't know html.

Good Luck!

I support Kathy. I just bought a nightgown from her for my hot flashing sister for Christmas.

That picture of Luke is amazing. Kathy, your son is brillian to figure that out. And so are you by putting another background. Do you make a family calendar? You should. I bet it would be awesome.

Bathbuddys, thanks for sharing what works for you. Hopefully, it will encourage others to use them too. I have no idea what you mean by tripod. Mind explaining?

Thanks, Dotsie, for everything! No calendar yet - in fact I can't even get a frame filled with family photos that I bought a year ago. I just need to set aside one day a week to do all those things I keep putting off!!

Anne, that's what I do. I still don't know much but now I feel I can take steps to move forward and I learn a little bit more each time I talk to someone. The trick for me is learning what the questions are to get the answers I need.

Re: I'm afraid of godaddy.com - 11/23/06 01:10 AM

Saundra, I'm not sure exactly what you are trying to do with your site, but I did a teleconference that you m gith be interested in listening to. It's on the Member Benefits page at www.nabbw.com. I know you're a member so you can listen to it for FREE. It may answer some of your questions and give you some ideas for when you launch your site.

Dotsie, I have no sound on my computer and it's too heavy for me to carry up/down the stairs to get a new sound card. I'm missing everything...I have to fix this!

Anne, have you tried googling what you want help with? There are some informative sites on line.

Re: I'm afraid of godaddy.com - 12/03/06 12:40 AM

I got my domain name yesterday and it was easy. When I got home from work today there was a phone message from godaddy and the name of the person who will help me with any problems or questions. If I'd known they do that I would have done it the day before my day off so it wouldn't cost me money to call them. I know I can email but talking is so much better.

Re: I'm afraid of godaddy.com - 12/04/06 12:26 AM

Thanks for being my cheerleader, Kathy. I don't like the web site styles so have to find out if I can get a plain white background. The immediate thing was to secure the domain name so I can put it in the book on the author page. This is exciting and a little scary. Don't want to make a mistake.
