List forum issues here...

List forum issues here... - 07/07/06 02:35 PM

I have a list going that I am going to send to the Groupee techie. Please add to this list if you are experiencing any problems:

Some women can't see the password forums at the bottom.
Some are experiencing longer than usual response times.
Will birthdays automatically show up on the calendar?
What to do about signatures?
The time is off on my PC.
We can't seem to see who is online.

Hi Dotsie
by "password forums at the bottom" do you mean the NABBW ones? Cause I was wondering where those went....

Re: List forum issues here... - 07/07/06 04:07 PM

I can add and/or concur with:

- very slow load-up and response (it just took me 7 minutes to get into the forums); I have no similar problems with other websites;
- Active Topics is still quirky; I cannot seem to switch easily between Main Index and Active Topics without getting an error message or being frozen out (and then taking 7 minutes to get back in)
- I cannot see the NABBW forums either
- I can't see who else is online
- with my previous colour scheme "Infopop2", I was not able to see "Add New Event" in the calendar forum;
- many times when I click the link to a thread, from either the Main Index or Active Topics page, it hangs - I often have to close out of IE completely and reopen BWS. I do not have similar problems with other websites (I add that last sentence for the tech's benefit - having been one for many years)

Re: List forum issues here... - 07/07/06 04:22 PM

One thing I'll throw into this mix is that WE have the option of making ourselves SHOWN on the forums...it's in your profile makeup. So you may not be seeing people who are actually lurking, or online, because they have opted to NOT let their presence be known.

I too am having the error messages appear between the MAIN TOPICS and other areas, (toggling back and forth) and have to do a "go back" several times to get it to work...and of course the response time is slow.

Re: List forum issues here... - 07/07/06 05:37 PM

I wanted to start a new thread and couldn't find the option.

Re: List forum issues here... - 07/07/06 05:51 PM

Diane,
Go to the SECTION you want to start the new thread in. Look at the top right-hand above it ONCE YOU CLICK ON IT. The first button should say "POST." Click on that. That is how you start a new TOPIC/POST.

Dotsie & JJ, I hope you know how much all your hard work and time is appreciated here. Wish I could send you a triple chocolate cheesecake just to show you how beloved and appreciated you both are...especially these days when you're having to be in so many different places at once here! Thank you!

I also cannot see the "downstairs" rooms. But I'm so glad we're all back together again...

I've sent all of these issues to the techie. Hang in there!

Re: List forum issues here... - 07/07/06 07:29 PM

Can't see whose online....Can't find the NABBW site at all...also why does the entire URL show instead of like before and just the site address? It should be just fine though once the bugs are worked out.....it takes time!

Re: List forum issues here... - 07/07/06 07:47 PM

The NABBW forums are now visible to me! I'm having fun navigating here - it's a whole new world!!

Re: List forum issues here... - 07/08/06 02:16 AM

Yuhooo...Anne! Here is an example of how to start a new topic.

Let's say you want to start a new one in the WELCOME section. First you would go to the MAIN INDEX and then click on the WELCOME section. When that screen opens up, look at the top on the right-hand side. The first button should say "POST." Click on that. Put in a subject in the SUBJECT line and of course whatever you want to say in the body. Hit submit! That is how you start a new TOPIC/POST.

As far as "flat mode" goes...I THINK it means that only the beginning topic is shown when you click on that. I'm not sure about it though so don't hold me to it.
Hope that helps! JJ

Re: List forum issues here... - 07/08/06 11:40 AM

Is everyone getting familiar with the new forums?

I am STILL waiting to hear from the Groupee tech. Needless to say, I am disappointed. Until yesterday, he was answering my emails quickly and making changes as requested. I'll be on the phone with them first thing Monday morning to get some of these other features straightened out. Please hang in there with me.

Re: List forum issues here... - 07/08/06 01:32 PM

Dotsie

I signed in this morning and the password protected forums were now visible, (diet, critique circle, NABBW) however I could enter all of them and view posts without having to enter the password - and I previous only had access to the NABBW one!

Re: List forum issues here... - 07/08/06 11:02 PM

I went in to change my signature and it said it was too long and that was when it was shortened....I just clicked out and forgot abgout it.

Re: List forum issues here... - 07/08/06 11:19 PM

Evie, how did you get your whole name, URL and blog URL to show up? .... Okay, I just went in to check mine and the number of characters allowed has been increased since yesterday. So that's how! I changed mine to include my name and URL as well.

Re: List forum issues here... - 07/08/06 11:30 PM

BTW, Dotsie, it seems that many of the "glitches" are getting fixed here...the signature problem seems fixed, the Active Topics glitch seems fixed, the response/transition times are MUCH better today than yesterday, so it seems that things are falling into their proper places here.

And I like it here. New digs, new colours, new buttons to press, new features to check out - it's all good, Dotsie. You've brought us to a great new place, and once we've all taken our shoes off and made ourselves at home in here, we're going to have to throw ourselves a super-duper Boomer cyberparty to celebrate - our first Boomer House Warming!

Congratulations Dotsie! I think we're going to be okay. I know there are still glitches to work out, but it seems many have already been fixed.

Eagle, if we all looked for the good in life LIKE YOU DO, we would be much better off. I love how you bring us all UP!

Re: List forum issues here... - 07/28/06 06:44 AM

when clicking on a link posted in the forum, one cannot click
the 'back button' on the browser b/c it's not highlighted, so one must click the 'x' and that closes the whole forum for me.

Anne,
When you go to the MAIN INDEX and then click on the WELCOME section and then look at the top on the right-hand side. WHAT DO THE BUTTONS SAY? Maybe we can figure this out.

Here is what I see:

Re: List forum issues here... - 08/06/06 10:14 AM

From yesterday and today, I have been experiencing intrusion attempts whilst in the Forums which, as a result, crashes my connection and takes me back to BWS Home Page. Spammers?
Posted by: Dotsie

Re: List forum issues here... - 08/06/06 03:42 PM

Anyone else experienced waht Lola is talking about? Perhaps Kathy (Rick and June) could explain why this might be happening...

Re: List forum issues here... - 08/06/06 06:02 PM

Norton Internet Security on my lap top in those circumstances read as follows:

Security Alert
High Risk
Intrusion: URL_Directory_Traversal
Intruder: localhost(2519)

Then it takes me to an AOL webpage:

host513.ipowerweb.com/-boomerwo/forums/showflat/php...

Then I close that and end up on BWS main page.

Is it from my end? It seems to have started when BWS started receiving those unsolicited advertising on various meds.

Re: List forum issues here... - 08/06/06 06:39 PM

Hi Lola, sounds like you have your Norton Security programmed at too high a level. Just a thought.

Re: List forum issues here... - 08/06/06 07:27 PM

You reckon, Hannelore? I do a lot of case management on my laptop which is why the level of security is where it is at. Is there a way to go around it without compromising privacy and security?
Posted by: chatty lady

Re: List forum issues here... - 08/06/06 10:42 PM

I have Norton Security too and wouldn't be without it no matter what the cost and I am not experiencing any of this.

Re: List forum issues here... - 08/08/06 07:30 AM

Lola,You could try erasing all your cookies...(they are in the temporary file). Those interferences might come from too many advertisements linked to your page.
Posted by: Lola

Re: List forum issues here... - 08/08/06 12:09 PM

Thanks, Hannelore. I actually set my laptop to do that so it automatically deletes temporary internet files visited and cookies when I sign off. Funny. I have never had any intrusions when I am on BWS until those spammers came on. I have'nt had any intrusions though since I last posted about it.

Re: List forum issues here... - 08/08/06 12:50 PM

It's funny to me that "they" can track down a cow that has Mad Cow Disease but they can't catch spammers. Go figure. I wish they would make it mandatory that the ones they do catch go straight to jail. They don't pass go, they don't get to call Mommy, they just go!

Re: List forum issues here... - 08/09/06 02:43 AM

Trying to change my signture saying and even though it is much shorter than the one there now, when clicking 'submit' it says my signature is too long, can't go any further??? I am shortening it not lenghtening it. So how do I do it?
Posted by: Lola

Re: List forum issues here... - 08/09/06 08:12 AM

Someone needs to come up with an idea to have some sort of electrical charge hooked up on keyboards or mouse (mice?. So when these spammers do what it is they do, they get blitzed on intrusions. Crashing their network system could also be a possibility.

Re: List forum issues here... - 08/09/06 12:10 PM

Chatty, I've had the same problem whenever I try to change my quotation at the end of my signature. I think I may have figured out that although the limit says 255 characters, it's actually something like 244. I typed mine all out in Word first, and used the Word Count tool to check how many characters I was using - and it wasn't until I got the whole signature down to 244 that the BWS system finally accepted it.

Re: List forum issues here... - 08/09/06 05:46 PM

Eagle, I hope your post helps chatty. Chatty, did this help?
Posted by: Eagle Heart

Re: List forum issues here... - 08/10/06 07:11 PM

Actually, I just rechecked mine (in Word, using the Word Count tool) and it says I've used 253 characters this time! So maybe it IS 255 characters. Isn't that as clear as mud? Hope it doesn't confuse anyone. Anyway, try for the 255 character count and see if that works.

Re: List forum issues here... - 08/10/06 11:19 PM

Nope Dotsie still no dice. I was trying to add a new saying that would be lessening my quotation by half of the one thats there now...very strange!

Re: List forum issues here... - 08/11/06 06:03 PM

Sorry about that. I don't know what else to suggest. If you want, you can try emailing me what you want and I can try to add it to your profile. I don't know that it will make a difference, but we can try.

Re: List forum issues here... - 08/13/06 12:37 AM

I wish that we could edit posts of ours that are more than a few days old. What is the statute of limitations for our edits?
Posted by: Dotsie

Re: List forum issues here... - 08/13/06 07:17 AM

It may be becasue I am an administrator, but I can edit any posts, regardless of how old they are. How about anyone else?

Meredith, to the left of where you post, do you see the Options? IF so, is the one checked that says Preview Reply? If so, every time you post, you should be able to edit before it appears live.
Posted by: chatty lady

Re: List forum issues here... - 08/13/06 08:51 PM

Yes but once you have posted and maybe edited that post thats IT!!! No more can you change or even delete it like we could before. The word edit disappears and Reply is in its place and you can do nothing at all but Reply, or not.

Re: List forum issues here... - 08/26/06 12:57 PM

Dotsie, do your techies know why the "Active Topics" is sometimes not available? I like to use that as my launching pad so that I don't miss any of the older posts (which don't show up on the Main Index if someone has posted a new topic overtop of the old one).

Some days I can go back and forth between the new posts and the "Active Topics" page as often as I want to. Other days, like this morning, I can't...it becomes unavailable after I've read just 2-3 posts. Would you be able to find out from your techies if there is some technical reason for that? Does it have something to do with how many people are online, or how often new posts are being added?

Thanks Dotsie!

Re: List forum issues here... - 08/26/06 08:28 PM

Not sure of the cause but when this has happened to me in here, I just click on it several more times and it will work but it can be a pain and time consuming.

Re: List forum issues here... - 08/27/06 03:57 PM

I'm no techie but I have figured this much out through trial and error....my only way of learning it seems(ha ha)

This always works:
(top of page) If 'search results" is available, click on that. If not click on 'active topics'. If you click on 'active topics' when 'search results' is available, you will get the message "not available". I know...clear as mud....
luv,
chick

Re: List forum issues here... - 08/27/06 08:57 PM

Oh my. I'm totally confused. I don't know if it's becasue I'm an administrator, but Active Topics is always available for me. Does this happen daily, weekly? Give me some idea so I can reference that in my question to them. Thanks.
Posted by: Eagle Heart

Re: List forum issues here... - 08/27/06 11:16 PM

Well, Dotsie, so far I haven't been able to figure out any particular rhyme or reason - and cannot reproduce the problem (your techies may want to know that last bit). I cannot MAKE the Active Topics not work.

Sometimes I can flip back and forth [between Active Topics and the various posts] as often as I want to - for hours at a time. Other times, I only flip back and forth a couple of times and then get that message about it being unavailable. I've tried Chick's solution (clicking on Search Results instead (when the Active Topics is unavailable), but that doesn't work for me.

Earlier this afternoon, I had problems with Active Topics after being on for only five minutes. Tonight I don't (so far) and I've already been browsing various threads here for about 30 minutes.

It's not that it's inconvenient (although it's frustrating when there are dozens of new posts I'm trying to read and I keep getting locked out of the Active Topics page), it's the inconsistency that's baffling for me. As a former techie, that inconsistency alone would make it something I'd want to troubleshoot.

Re: List forum issues here... - 08/28/06 01:00 AM

What I've noticed is that if I check out an active topic and I just quickly scan for the latest post then when I try to go back to the active topic list it times me out for about a minute. Then I can get back in. Is this how it is supposed to work?

I thought it was to make me take the time to post and not just scan!

Re: List forum issues here... - 08/30/06 05:26 PM

I'm having problems with this too. After I've clicked on active topics once, it won't let me back, says I can't search again at this time. It's annoying. I haven't found a rhyme or reason for it either but it does happen most of the time that I try to do it.
