Oh, Hannelore, I'm feeling that ache...that actual physical ache, as in a need to hold that baby-doll in my arms! She's a lovely lady indeed!

In but a wink-of-an-eye, it will seem, your grandbeauty will stand before you, at the age of eight or nine. Enjoy those baby-years, Nana, they pass so quickly.

Jeannie, what a beauty she is. What kind of dancing ricital was it? She looks like a little Hollywood star.

You know what baby I want to see? Celtic and Po's wee thing!

One of the greatest joys of this board for me is getting to share our grandbabies with everyone. Hannelore, such beauty! Same with Miss Juli...

Ann, I will glady share Lea and Katie with you! I mean it...you can be Auntie Ann!

Re: ga ga goo goo - 01/31/07 12:24 PM

They are both so sweet. I remember my daughter's dance recitals. Guess we'll have some of those coming up soon. I can't wait. As soon after it happens that I can get to the pc, I will post a picture. The due date was yesterday, so we are just waiting for the little miss to make her grand entrance into the world. I'm a wreck waiting for this event. At work, not an hour goes by that someone isn't stopping by my office asking, "Anything yet?" "No baby yet?" Like I would be sitting there if there was, or wouldn't tell them or put up a sign. I can email from my cell phone, so if I can do it from the hospital, I will email Renee from my phone and she will post it on the forums for me so you will all know right away.

It does go by so fast. It seems like last week we were waiting for the first of my husband's two grandchildren to be born and now Libby (18 mos.) is walking and talking and getting into everything and Mason (7) mos.) stood up in his crib the other day. I plan to spend as much time with Katie as I can and enjoy every minute of it. In a year and a half, we've gone from zero to three grandchildren!

JJ, thanks for sending me back to this post. I am lucky enough to be an auntie to a wonderful grown man (it kills me to call him a man, he was my little boy for so long!) and if your babes need another auntie, I would be proud to have two nieces.

Re: ga ga goo goo - 02/01/07 01:46 PM

I'm so enjoying the pics of everyone's Grands!

Hannelore, Miss Juli's dance recital is held each year in a community center, befor an audience of over six hundred. She and her class performed a tap routine, and a jazz dance number, (Miss Juli had a solo bit during the jazz number, that resulted in spontaneous applause from the audience, and you know the palms of my hands were stinging at the end of that!) and she took part in the finale, and wasn't that a sight to bring tears to all the mothers' and Nanas' and Aunties' eyes! From three year olds to young teens, performing their hearts out. The recital's theme was 'A Mother's Love', and let me tell ya, ther wasn't a dry eye in the house!

Lola, the little beauty's pic is large enough to see clearly she's a doll. And her sis, all bundled-up against the cold, a real sweetie, who reminds me of my eldest daughter, at that age. Gimster, I suppose you feel as I do, about your grandbeauty...a bit wowed! by her outer beauty, and humbled by what I see as to her inner beauty.

Sherri, if I had no blood grandchildren, I know I'd still be thought of as Nana by some. Everyone needs a Nana.

For those who mentioned the children's eyes...yes, I see it in the eyes of each grandchild pictured here...the beauty of innocence, and their little souls shining through, for us to see.

I just had to add this pic of my grandson, Joshua...He has a loving heart that is 100 times greater than his size.

Re: ga ga goo goo - 02/01/07 03:41 PM

Little boys are like fresh air, warm earth, and a spring shower rolled in one.
Pockets filled with elastic bands, cap-guns rolls, crumbs from a honey bun.
Their faces light up, if you toss them a ball, and say, "come on, let's go out 'n play."
Add hugs 'n kisses and firefly wishes; don't need more for a great little boy day.

Now look at that, your picture just inspired me to whip up this little poem. Hannelore

Re: ga ga goo goo - 02/01/07 04:30 PM

Hannelore,
I love what you had to say about little boys. I had two sons and it's so true about their pockets. We lived in Oklahoma and my older son, Ray, kept a pet horny toad in his pocket when he was about two and a half. We'd go to town and he'd pull that little critter out of his pocket (it would be gasping for air) but he'd raise it up to whomever and show off his pet. It was so precious. My daughter-in-law had Adrianna last year. In about 4 months she's going to have Andrew...two little ones 16 months apart. Glad it's her and not me.

Re: ga ga goo goo - 02/02/07 12:43 AM

Okay, I have to brag a bit here, too. Seems, I too, am a new Grandmother. Celtic and Popea have graciously allowed me to adopt Lucien as his wonderful Grannie Annie.

Don't be jealous here, girls. I know that I did not have to give birth first, but, I believe, that I have adopted the most beautiful grandchild ever! And, to think, I adopted him on the day of his parents wedding. What a lucky woman I am today.

Okay, I need lots of advice! Like I said, I have never had my own kid, so how does one spoil a grandkid without pissing off the parents?
Posted by: Dotsie

Re: ga ga goo goo - 02/02/07 01:57 AM

Lola, he's precious.I love his little expression. He looks like he's full of surprises.

Anno, This is so cool. Have you heard anything about the wedding? I have to go search the other forums to see what I can learn about their big day.

Re: ga ga goo goo - 02/02/07 06:30 AM

Ann, you can start corresponding with Lucien who now attends school. That way, you'll get to know him and all that he is fond of. I am sure you will be a doting grandmother to Lucien. How lovely it is for Celtic and Popea to share their bundle of love with you.

Yes, Dotsie. My grandchildren are my blessed treasures and my world stops for them.

For lovely ANAIYA who celebrates her first birthday today!!!

Posted by: Edelweiss

Re: ga ga goo goo - 02/02/07 08:23 AM

Lola, what a surprise. You just made my mouth greet my ears.

Anaiya will be getting her first chocolate cake today. Oh boy...picture taking time. Dil has invited 27 people to come over on Sunday. She'll learn too...that little Anaiya won't give a hoot how many people are coming...as long as Mommy and Daddy are there.

Ann, you got to have a wallet of pictures of your grandchild to show. And it's the little things that count...the inbetween things that make you more special than others. Send him his favourite candy. Or a special pencil, book or crayons for school. Oh this is so exciting...a wedding and an adoption right here at the forum!

All of the grandchildren pictured are just beautiful. We are so fortunate to have healthy grandbabies.

Re: ga ga goo goo - 02/02/07 06:06 PM

Anno, who cares about pissing off the parents? It's your grandchild, what's better than that? LOL Seriously, though. Indulge. Indulge. Indulge. On a reasonable level. Don't spoil him rotten, just spoil him a little. How old is he? Find out his likes, dislikes. Favorite teams, things like that.

That's about all the advice I can give you at the moment. I'm a brand new grandma and am still learning the ropes.

Always have pictures handy to show off your grandchild. I bought a small photo album that I can put in my purse, then a big one that I'm going to start for Dominik and go through his life with it. They grow so quickly.

It's Celtic and Po's responsibility to make sure you get regularly updated photos. Either electronically or through the mail. That's important in keeping the grandma happy.

Good luck and Congratulations!

Re: ga ga goo goo - 02/02/07 07:04 PM

She's a darling, Dee! Glad you got the hang of posting photos. To resize to smaller ones, you can do that when you upload in the photobucket account e.g. 150 x 200 approx which would give you something close to the size of what I have posted or 300 x 400 approx which would be closer to Jeannine's and Hannelore's. Anyway, it's all a matter of trial and error.

How many teeth has she got?
Posted by: Edelweiss

Re: ga ga goo goo - 02/02/07 07:13 PM

Hi Dee! Just got your mail, and was just about to put your precious grandbaby in. Maybe you should delete your picture, because it may slow down some of the ladies' computers. I'll put it in smaller. You have to reduce the size, before you put it in. Or it's possible at the Photobuckets to reduce the size directly, (above the picture you have to click on edit, and then you can make it smaller.)

Posted by: Dee

Re: ga ga goo goo - 02/02/07 09:19 PM

Lola and Hannelore....thanks you two. I deleted the larger one and should be able to figure out anymore that I do. Gosh, what a learning process. Again, thanks to everyone who has pitched in to help this old woman figure this stuff out. Sheesh.

Re: ga ga goo goo - 02/02/07 11:58 PM

This is the first chance I've had to read through the whole thread...what delightful pictures and conversations. Ann, I never had my own children either, but now have three grandchildren, two from my husband's son, and the other is my husband's great-nephew who doesn't have a grandfather. Since hubby has been a father-figure to his nephew since his own father died when he was young, it was natural to adopt his son as our grandson.

I love being a grandmother, though haven't been able to spend as much time with my granddaughter since my brother got sick. (It's not just because I don't have as much time, but also because I have to be extremely careful not to be exposed to infections and viruses.) But I try to send her little cards and/or special gifts via my husband when he goes to see her, so she knows I love her and miss her and that my absence is ALL about my brother, and not about her. She seems to understand. I'll have to try to find a picture to post here.

Tomorrow night I'll have 4 of the other 7. I'll try and get pics of them to share with you all.
How I'll get pics of the other two boys I don't know. I'd share their football pictures from last season, but in the pics the boys are dirty, sweaty and looking into the sun - not good pics.

Re: ga ga goo goo - 02/10/07 02:17 PM

Dotsie, Yes there is another grandmother and a grandfather. They have 8 grandchildren now, so this is not new to them. She will be babysitting Katie when my daughter goes back to work. She babysat all the others and wants to do it again. My son has been so excited about all this. He is godfather to several of his friends' kids and they all call him uncle. He is thrilled at being a "real uncle" now and is also going to be Katie's godfather.

Hi, Gimster: I was out of town for a week and a day for my grandbaby's Christening and only came back last night. I could not post from my daughter's house because I always had to catch a child and help soothe teething problems which all three had at the same time. And, for the few times I attempted to log in, there were a few more limbs on the keyboard than necessary to operate the computer! My grandchildren enjoy browsing the net for animated emoticons. That helped halt the tears from sore gums! Not the colic and the drool though

Good job, Anno!
He's cute, even when he's not feeling well.
Thanks for sharing.

Re: ga ga goo goo - 02/13/07 08:44 AM

Now look at that smile! It's enough to make you feel all gushy and fuzzy inside. You're one lucky Grandma, Anno! And Po and Celtic can be some proud Mom's. Aaah, isn't life wonderful?

Lola! Despite their teething your three grandchildren are so cute.

Re: ga ga goo goo - 02/13/07 12:22 PM

Yes, that is Celtic and Po's little boy. They have honored me by allowing me to become his adopted Grandma. Aren't I the luckiest!

Lola, I missed your post somehow.
3 g/c teething... was that a test, or what?
... grandbaby is adorable (on chatty's treasure thread).
Glad you're back and safe.

What a cool idea, celtic. Did he recognize himself? At what age do kids begin to recognize themselves in pictures and mirrors?

So he is a batman fan, too. Superman best beware!

All I have to do is turn on the light and the grandkids smile! Point the mobile phone at them and they'd give you a smile or experiment with expressions. The older grandchildren would even smile for an x-ray! They love the camera, their reflection on the mirror and their shadows.

beautiful...Re: ga ga goo goo - 02/13/07 10:20 PM

thats all true lola isent it great that they are so natural no shyness or self-concisness from them in front of cameras. When lucien was young he would smile at anything and spent most of his baby time smiling....i took him to the movies (yes it was noisy) to see harry potter with his cusons he interacted with the movie faces mimiking back their expresions and smilling back at them when they talked.....of the top of my head it around the year mark that they get a sence or concept of self.....famouse experiemnts with kids, show them a mirror, dab a red blob on their nose take them to mirror and they try or actuly touch the blob showing that they recognise rember and have noticed the diffrence in the image.

he certinly know himself now lol and loves a camera, a video, a mobile phone all of it.

i asked "now who that handsom boy their" he face lit up with a big smile and chatted about it.

yea superman may get a run for his money theas days....well i suppose their worse male role models for him to take an intrest in, allthough the tights worrie me a bit lol

Yep, Celtic and right now my 6-year old grandson is quite unabashed to having his photo taken minus a tooth.

He is still all welted up here from the stress of losing a tooth but he just loves the camera.

One of my favorite kid pictures is a picture with a tooth missing. Wonder picture, Lola. He is a cutie pie.

He's a sweetheart, Lola.

My 4 year old nephew has a fisher Price digital camera. He loves taking pictures now. The thing really works! He can download pictures from the camera to the pc. I'm not sure he does that part, but the camera is capable. Imagine.

I do know the song, Lola. In fact, after you mentioned it, I googled it and found the lyrics and a vintage audio of it and sent it to my daughter.

Thank you gimster. Good thing she doesn't seem to mind the camera, since I'm already being called Grandma-razzi by my daughter.

What an absolute beauty. Grandma razzi, you got a picture worth pursuing.

I used to go to a night club in Boston called K-K-K-Katie's.
Did you go there too, Louisa? I think it was somewhere near Boston University.
Is it my eyes, or is your grandbaby getting cuter by the day? What a doll!

A bald baby. A sign that hair will grow thick and healthy. Great pics, Lola.

They are just adorable. Great shot of the two of them!

I never heard of that club, Hannelore, but I never really went to clubs much anyway (until I got divorced).

Oh, Chick. You must be a BEAUTY to have such a handsome grandson. I love the snow picture. Years from now, he will only remember the stories he is told about this picture, but it will become one of his special memories.

Chick IS beautiful. And skinny. Someone I could learn to hate. (She knows I jest).

Chick, Dylan is a doll. Love those beautiful eyes of his!

Chick, what a doll. His eyes are beautiful. Do you get to see him much?
Posted by: chickadee

Re: Good looking...Re: ga ga goo goo - 02/26/07 06:01 AM

JJ,Who's skinny? I'm 5 foot nuthin. If I gain anymore weight, I'll be the shape of a square. Damn Menopause!

Hannelore, that's Canadian snow.

Dotsie, Dylan is in Canada and I see him twice a year and talk to him everyday. I'm a granny by webcam and phone.

He wants to be a movie director when he grows up (he's six). He writes scripts, creates and draws his own characters and spends a great deal of time with his handmade cardboard movie camera.

We have a game we play every day. We take on different characters and act them out by phone. Some days I'm Robin or Maryjane and some days I'm the joker. It's the best fun I have.
He does have beautiful eyes. My Daddy once said, he's too pretty to be a boy. Ouch.

Chick,
What a cutie and talented to boot.

My oldest son was a pretty boy too. When he was a baby I'd dress him up as boyish as I could and little old ladies would still say what a pretty girl. He's a good looking man now.

Believe me Dotsie when I say I miss all of you too!

We still have our house guest, (she's a sweetheart), then a big Easter gala this Sunday, and then our grand-angel will be spending a week with us. Whew...I wish I had a week to catch up with everyone's posts. I'll really try to peek in every once in a while.

mitzkity, I missed welcoming you. Looks like you are a great addition to this 'home away from home'. Do you have any grandchildren?
