It's Official!
I'm a grandma. I just found out this morning. My son has been waiting for the paternity test results to come back and he got the call this morning.
He had a very short relationship with a girl, who later got pregnant, but didn't tell my son that the baby was his until a month after the baby was born.
So, it's official. I'm a grandma. Wow.

Congratulations granny! Isn't it a great feeling? Will she let you be a part of the baby's life?

Re: It's Official! - 11/21/06 04:28 PM
Well you are a grandma no matter what, nobody can change that! Congratulations! Hope you can be a part of your grandchild's life.
Well, so far she's letting my son be a hands-on dad. We'll sort the rest out as we go, I guess. I did go out and buy my son a "congratulations it's a boy" card and put a gift card in it to Toys R Us/Babies R Us.
He really is proud and happy to be a father. I'm glad he's taking this seriously and taking responsibility. He's getting his name put on the birth certificate as well. I've noticed a change in him over the last week or so while we waited for the results. Good changes. More settled down and being more cautious. He's even talking about selling his motorcycle and getting a safer vehicle. One that he can put a car seat in the back seat.
You never know what kind of decision your kids are going to make until they're faced with the situation. He could have walked away, but even before the test results were in he stepped up and took responsibility. He's been over to the girl's house every night after work helping with the baby.
One thing this has done, is made him think twice about joining the military. Now he's not so sure. He doesn't want to leave the baby.

So happy for you Grandma Vicki....Is his girlfried letting you be a part of the babies life. If it were me, I would make the first move, call the girl and ask to meet her and the little guy and take a nice baby gift and something nice for mother too, maybe a baby album, thats not too personal but is useful and considerate..

Re: It's Official! - 11/22/06 01:09 AM
Happy for you all Vicki. I am only into grandmahood for 6 months so far but it is everything and more that all told me it would be! I agree, make the first move by letting the mom know you are thrilled and welcome them both into your life.

Vicki,
How wonderful! Name? Your gratitude at the Thanksgiving table will hold new meaning now, I'm sure. Congrats to all of you! How does your hubby feel about being a Pappaw?

Re: It's Official! - 11/22/06 03:27 AM
CONGRATS. How wonderful for you all. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Well, I can't go over to the girl's house because they live in Tucson, AZ and I'm all the way over here in Florida. But, we all have computers so I'm going to give the girl my e-mail address so she can send me pictures.
The baby's name is Dominik Patrick.
I found out today that they are going to share joint custody and she's letting the family get as involved as they want. She's even spending Thanksgiving with my son and his father and all the family over there. It's going to be a bit more difficult for me living so far away, but hey, families are spread all over the country now.
Thank you all for the congratulations, it's still sinking in. I've been a bit numb about it all, really.

Vicki,
I have a friend whose husband had a similar situation (before they were married). His daughter is 17 now and she is very involved with his family and even my friend's family.
I know you will all have much happiness. Congrats!
thanks, very much.
According to my son, he's going to have joint custody and said the baby's mother wants to have all the family involved as much as possible. I've asked my son to give her my e-mail address so she can send me pictures as well.

Re: It's Official! - 11/28/06 10:51 PM
Vicki, my DIL called me the other day just so I could hear Landin cooing. I wanted to jump on a plane and go to AZ to get my Landin fix!
I saw a baby t-shirt that said, *Boob Man* on it. Well, he does nurse so I guess that makes him a boob man. I thought it was a bit extreme though so I didn't buy it.

Does this baby have red hair Vicki? What a beauty....my, my...Santa sure was good to you all this year!
Probably a little dusting of red, but mostly brunette. Ok, brown for boys. My son was born with red hair and now he's a blond.

What a sweet picture. I love black and white. You must be so excited. I can't wait to hear about it.
It's so funny - my kids are still young (20 and 15) so I truly don't want grandchildren yet. But seeing your pics and hearing you all talk about doting on your grandkids sounds so nice! I just know I'd spoil mine rotten!!

Congratulations Vicki.
those pictures are all awesome. And what a head full of hair!
Eat him up when you get there!
Hannelore, the baby has features that look like my son, but the hair is from his mommy. My son has blond hair.
In two weeks, we'll be flying to Arizona. I've already been baby shopping and have things to take with me. Clothes from the Disney store. Of course, I got Winnie the Pooh.
I'll definitely come back and share all my pictures with you.

Re: It's Official! - 01/11/07 12:02 AM
I love it. My step-daughter-in-law had a picture of Adrianna taken and it's of Adrianna at six months butt naked sitting in a bowl (like the old fashioned bowls and pitcher? The water picture is off to the right of her and she has a garland of pink rose buds on her head and pink roses scattered around the table...it's just too cute for words.
oh my gosh, that pictures sounds adorable. I can see it in my head. I have one of those old bowls with pitcher. It was my mom's.

Uweee we got hip deep snow over here!!! Hubby is picking up our grandbaby today. We'll have her for 3 or four days. Last night Grandpa got the sled out with the baby seat. Oh boy...it's picture taking time!!!
My son told me he fed his daughter (she's 11 months old) 10 olives!!!! That can't be healthy, can it? He does all these crazy things. Am I being too sensitive , or is that really crazy. At that age we fed our babies bananas and baby food. Oh dear, he gives me headaches.

Re: It's Official! - 01/25/07 03:02 PM
My 4 yr. old grandaughter is SO beautiful! She is 1/2 Cuban and 1/2 Irish...what a combo, right? Her hair has never been cut and hangs in long banana curls. She has a charming toothy grin and expressive eyes that sparkle and glimmer with light. She has dimples like Shirley Temple and sings and dances...She is a pure delight.
My grandson who also lives with me is six and so funny. He talks fast and uses goo on the front of his hair so it will stick up...wears his jeans and shirt too big, which I understand is in style and is as he puts it, "The math king" at his school.
I enrolled him in Cub Scouts and make sure he keeps up with his reading. I've set it up with his sister's preschool to have him read to her classmates in the evening.
What a deep pleasure to know that you had something to do with these exquisite creatures in your life. Isn't it a joy?
I'm back from my visit with my new grandson. I miss him already. It's going to be so hard with me in Florida and him in Arizona. I can see lots of flights in my future.
Here's a picture of me and Dominik
I have more pictures, just need to get them uploaded to my photo gallery
Here's a picture of Dominik, my son Kyle, and his girlfriend, Patricia.

Re: It's Official! - 01/25/07 08:24 PM
He has so much hair! What a cutie. Oh I can sympathize with you Vicki. It must be tough to be so far apart.
We finally got our sweetheart to go to bed, after a warm bath, excited palm splashing (extended fingers and intake of air every time water drops fly to her face). She squeals with delight when grandpa makes the rubber duck dance.
Did you get to bathe Dominick too, Vicki? Oh that moment when you take them out of the tub, all warm and slippery, red cheeks, and damp curly hair. Then rapping them into a huge soft towel, and kissing their feet till they giggle. Those are moments too precious for words.
New Leaf, your granddaughter sounds like the second Shirley Temple. What a delight!
Can you post a picture of your grandchildren too?
