Handy Spice Charts

Handy Spice Charts - 09/01/08 12:52 PM

Over 30 years ago, someone gave me a spice chart...it's too old and fragile to photocopy, but I did some searching online and found lots of handy spice charts. I picked out five that I thought were the handiest:

1. This might be the best chart because you can either view it by what you’re cooking or by spice: http://www.cdkitchen.com/features/spices/spiceuses.php

2. This is a good comprehensive list of spices: http://www.recipes.ubr.com/home/cooking-...nformation.aspx

3. This is a much simpler list of spices and their typical use: http://www.foodandnutrition.com/Appendix/spice_chart.htm

4. This one's very short, but based on what you’re cooking which makes it a handy quick reference: http://homecooking.about.com/library/archive/blmisc2.htm

5. Watkin’s spice chart; I chose this one because it's one of the few that listed other uses for paprika, which is one of my favourite spices these days (I use it in almost everything now): http://www.18hrwk.com/customernews/watkinsspicechart.htm

WOW Eagle. You aim to please, gal. I love somebody who researches and gives tons of info. Now I feel bad for not doing it myself. You certainly did the job AND I'm a happy camper. I'm following all of them and picking the one, or ONES that will serve me best.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Girl, I have already found out that the first one will answer any questions I might have on spices, and by food category! This is like the motherlode!

Just another FYI on what Eagle has found for all of us...the last link, the BellaOnline one, gives Herbs and Spices chart, Emergency Substitutions Chart, Grilling times, a vegetable freezing chart, successful home canning, pasta shapes, beef and roasting charts, how much--how many, quantity converter chart, and of course recipes.

I can already tell I'll be spending wayyyy too much time here.

Thanks Eagle...what a find!

I like the Watkins Spice Chart. Thanks Eagle! I have used Watkins spices and extracts for over 30 years. It all started with a free bottle of vanilla and black pepper coupon out of a Sunday magazine, and I was hooked. You can buy Watkins at wal-mart now...who knew! cool

I'm glad these were useful! I've bookmarked the BellaOnline site and the Watkin's chart as well. I haven't seen the Watkins products in the stores here. I've wanted to order their cassia cinnamon from their online store, but the shipping costs to Canada are somewhat prohibitive. I didn't think to look in our Walmart superstore yet...I'll check it out this week.
