Eye lid lifts

Eye lid lifts - 12/15/05 05:11 AM

Recently, my DH told me I look "tired", but I'm not!

A friend just had her eye lids "lifted" and they look great. She FEELS great and does not look tired anymore.

She tells me the dr.says the best time to do this is before 55, which is where I am. (48).

It cost her only $1600 including the consultation.

I'm seriously considering this. It supposedly lasts for forever.

Anyone do this or contemplate it?

I did it years ago. What do you want to know about it?

$1600 for both eyes. Dianne.......just wondering how long it really lasts. Does not seem too painful and my friend said she'd stay with me the 48 hrs that you are supposed to do NOTHING!

I've always thought that if I ever did anything, it would be an eyelid lift - well, maybe botox, too.

I'm sick and tired of my husband telling me I look tired or people asking me what's wrong when I'm just fine. I know it's the aging, sagging, and bagging. I told my husband to get used to the new look or get me a face lift for Christmas. Dianne, is it possible to have only the eye lid lift without other surgery? Or does one surgery lead to looking like you need another. I'd like a neck lift too. And a butt lift.

Oh,(not Dianne, but I can answer) you do not need another surgery. This friend has a friend who had it done last year. They both look FAB!!

My friends wants to get a "jowl" lift, but later on.

Re: Eye lid lifts - 12/15/05 07:19 AM

I had to have the eye lift surgery done because my left eye was droppy because of a medical problem.
Where does this friend live that had the surgery for only $1600????!!!!!!!!!!!!
The doctor and hospital bill was over $6000!
Both eyes.
I was awake thru the whole thing. Just a local with meds to make me feel good.
Need to be awake so the doc can ask you to open your eyes to make sure they match. Makes sense to me!
There was absolutely no pain!
BUT.....my eyes looked like I'd been in a World Heavyweight Title!
Very swollen and very black eyes.
Had it done about 2 1/2 years ago.
It lasts forever as far as I know.
My insurance was kind enough to pay for both eyes to be done. They decided it would be nice if both eyes matched.
I say go for it.
I was in the hospital for about six hours, then went home.
Good luck on whatever you decide to do.
My eyelids are still numb, and probably will be forever.

Uh oh........I have a feeling they "milked" the insunrance since they paid. That $1600 is in Las Cruces, NM. Insurance does not pay, of course, since it's considered "cosmetic".

Still numb, huh? I'll ask my friend how she feels. She just had it done Oct 16 a swollen a bit yet,but she returns Jan 16 for a follow up.

Thanks for your info!

Di, as someone else said, you can have your eyes done and nothing else.

I remember stinging as they put ice on my eyes for a certain amount of time after the surgery. It was irritating more than anything else.

I had somewhat of an "oriental" look for a couple of weeks. Plan on staying home for a while because you'll look like a battered woman.

Nothing lasts forever and from my understanding, you should only have an eyelift once as there isn't enough skin for a second and you'll start looking like you were strapped to a 747 wing.

Re: Eye lid lifts - 12/15/05 07:25 PM

The numbness is typical of all surgeries, not just eyelids. I've had many surgeries and am numb around all the incisions.

I've pretty much (never say never) decided I am not going the surgical route for aging. I'm sticking to my Arbonne products from Danita to help me through all this.

I know a man who almost died having a face lift due to an allergic reaction. The doctor couldn't perform the surgery so he found another doctor to do it at a later date. He is probably the most vain man I know.

You are right about the numbness, Dotsie. I have several scars myself.

Well, maybe I can just use toothpicks to lift my lids!!!

Re: Eye lid lifts - 12/16/05 08:00 AM

The Opthalmic Sergeon who operated on me to remove the tumor behind my eye also does eye lifts and botox. He's one of the most reputable doctors at Mass Eye and Ear in Boston, so I would guess that both are surgically sound procedures. I know I'll never find out. I have a droopy eyelid from the surgery 4 years ago, but he won't fix it because I could lose what little vision I have left in that eye.

Sometimes I feel self-conscious about the way I look. More times I'm greatful to be alive and able to see out of that eye at all.

If you want to look into this surgery to please yourself, go for it. If it's just to please your husband, I would think about it long and hard.

Update: my friend gave DH the lowdown on this. He says he agrees if I want to get this done.

It's not a "cosmetic" thing, it's more because I feel my eyes have drooped and find myself lifting my eye lids to see. I always had one lazy eye, but now with age, it's a pain!

We'll see.

Re: Eye lid lifts - 12/20/05 08:40 AM

I have lazy eye, too. Perhaps fortunately, it's the one that I lost partial sight in after surgery. I can't really lift that eyelid to see better. It hurts too much. Unfortunately, there's nothing I can do about it. If I could, I know I would. I say, go for it!

Go for it Di! I have a feeling you're going to be very pleased when you look in the mirror. I know others who have had it done and were very pleased with their appearance.

The end result is that it will make you feel better and that's what counts.

I had a face, eye (upper and lower) and neck lift 2 years ago, and am so very glad I did. I really admire those women who can accept themselves as they are as they age, but I am not one of them. I wanted the surgeries and my husband gave them to me for my 49th birthday. The recovery was not bad at all. I was out and about in 10 days (with makeup covering the bruises) The face lift does not fix everything, mostly the sagging muscles. I get botox and restylane injections. I have a friend who is a Family Nurse Practicioner and is getting into the cosmetic injections. You can visit her wesite at www.about-faceaesthetics.com if you would like.
