The big W.W.! - 07/26/03 04:27 AM

Okay, so last Saturday I started Weight Watchers. Really just want to lose about 10-15 pounds. Don't want to get into the habit of gaining a couple every year.

Tomorrow I weigh in. Now I sound like a wrestler or football player.

Anyway, just checking in to see what other women are doing to fight the battle of the changing metabolism. [Mad]

Funny thing.... with my Lupus i am on a bunch of meds. well recently one of my doctors decided to cut back some that he thought were detrimental. a great thing happened... i began dropping weight! it turns out that one of the meds was causing me to eat when i wasn't hungry. when i dropped the outdated medication i noticed a drop in my appetite and over the last couple months i dropped 14 pounds. i have been eating less and keeping the weight off. i could get to like that idea since i am overweight. Now that's a first! An easy answer to losing weight without having to do a darn thing. [Razz]

Usually they give little pills to help drop pounds. Now they are taking them away! [Big Grin]

Re: The big W.W.! - 07/29/03 04:51 PM

By the way, I lost 2.8 lousy pounds the first week.

We shall see what happens this week...as I sit here with my gallon size jug of water next to me, after having had a 4 point breakfast.

The thing that kills me is my little glass of orange juice that I can't live without (that was once a huge glass of orange juice)counts as 2 of those points.

I think I better go in the Fine Whine Forum! [Wink]

Dotsie,
You go girl! 2.8 lbs is nothing to sneeze at! If you don't believe me, take a jar of jelly and put it in your pocket. Carry it around all day. When you take it out of your pocket, you will be relieved! See? Weight is weight. 2.8 this week, 2.8 lbs the next week. Slow is the way. Trust me. I am very proud for you. Keep us posted.

P.S. One trick I use to do when on WW was taking a piece of red-peppered ham, spreading pimento cheese on it, roll it up and eat it. I use to do a couple of those for part of my lunch. I don't know how many points that is, OR WAS, but it didn't keep me from losing. Course that was a hundred years ago. No joke. I learned that trick while on the Ark.

The jelly jar made me laugh. [Big Grin]

Unfortunately, after vacation last week I believe it is back in my pocket. Or should I say...on my stomach or thighs? [Razz]

Due to vacation that was the last time I weighed in. Got to get back to counting those stinkin' points and rid myself of some jelly jars!

I've been on weight watchers program now for 3 months...I've lost 12 pounds. A very slow process. My weight goes up 2 and down 3 the next weigh in...stable then down 1 the up .2 but i'm averaging about a pound a week. I don't look at it as a diet anymore. Its a "weigh" of life. I have a lot to lose. Maybe one day I will actually hit goal

smilingthrulife...great name and welcome aboard. We love it when people register and post right away! [Big Grin]

Glad to hear you are having success with the big WW. I had to miss 2 meetings in a row so I haven't gone back. Any excuse to put it off again. [Razz]

I'm just thinking more about the points as I eat my way through the day. Thanks for the reminder to get back on track.

One of my sisters told me her new rule and it's a toughie! Nothing out of a bag or box! Wow, not that's a challenge.

anyone who would give you that kind of rule, must be communist...I mean, no Oreo's? Isn't that a staple in your household? no? Is it me? WHAT? [Eek!]

Re: The big W.W.! - 09/10/03 03:39 PM

Dots, as you know I've lost 40 lbs in about a year but that was on the caffiene, nicotine, my husband's crazy diet. And the addition of small holes in my esophagus have probably helped too. But I've noticed that I've gained back about 3 lbs in a month and can't understand it. I'm still exercising, still being pretty careful about what I eat. However, I have been having a beer or glass of wine a couple of times a week and I think that may be the problem. But regardless, it seems that since hitting menopause or whatever this is....post partial hysterectomy syndrone, I can gain pounds overnight even while exercising. So stick to the WW but my one bit of advice is that if you eat bread and potatoes....stop. That seemed to be the one thing that dropped the fat off of my belly and butt faster than anything.

A friend of mine and I signed up for Weight Watchers this week. How's it been going foryou Dotsie? I did it about two years ago and lost 45 bound. I was usrprised when I weighed in because I have only gained 15 of it back in the two years. I still need to loose more than 30 pounds to be a lifetime member. We'll see how it goes. Today was my first day and I was so hungry off and on throught out the day that I was delirious.

Re: The big W.W.! - 10/23/03 04:12 PM

I never went back after two meetings. Sorry, no help here! For three Saturday mornings I had something to do and didn't get there, and by then I had lost interest.

I wish you well with it. I think doing it with a friend is a good answer!

I'm still doing the walking thing five days a week. I'm not losing, but I'm not gaining either.

Just read Kathryn's post and she's right. It's the bread and potatoes. The starches, carbs, blah, blah, blah, for me. I'm a carbohydrate junkie and I' trying to cut back a little, but it's not easy! [Mad]

Re: The big W.W.! - 10/29/03 04:38 PM

Well, I lost 6 pounds after the first week on WW. And for those of you who deprive yourself of carbs and sweets on Atkins, I had birthday cake at a party on Saturday and a low fat whole grain waffle with ice cream almost every night! It's all about writing everything down and keeping track of what you eat. So far I don't have that much trouble with it. They give three different ways to keep track. FOr those who need to write it all down or just want to cross off the number of points they 've used. I think I'll be sticking to this.

Way to go Candice. Sounds like a good diet for you. How did your friend do?

I bet you loved every morsel of that birthday cake! [Big Grin]

Funny how you appreciate things so much more when you don't indulge. Another way we take things for granted.

Re: The big W.W.! - 10/29/03 06:52 PM

My friend lost two pounds. She was littel dissapointed because these other people who joined last week lost 7 pounds. I told her loss is loss. She be able to keepp the two punds a week thing for a few more weeks, probable, where as I will never lose 6 pounds in one week again. Our leader said if I lost that much next week, she'd call 911!
