Christmas song - 12/21/04 09:46 PM

Posting on Newhope's topic reminded me of this song. Not sure why. It is sung by a boy in one of my plays. It is my favorite. (I took out some choruses)
Maybe others would like to post Christmas poems or songs that they have written or are just their favorites??

CHRISTMAS STAR Reg. Copyright 1994

LONG AGO ON CHRISTMAS EVE
THERE WAS A CHRISTMAS STAR
IT PROCLAIMED A MIRACLE
TO PEOPLE NEAR AND FAR

WISEMEN SAW THE CHRISTMAS STAR
AND FOLLOWED IT TO SEE
THE MIRACLE OF CHRISTMAS
THAT FIRST CHRISTMAS EVE

THE CHRISTMAS STAR
THE CHRISTMAS STAR
LIGHTS UP THE DARK COLD SKY
THE CHRISTMAS STAR
THE CHRISTMAS STAR
A MESSAGE FROM ON HIGH

AN INNOCENT LITTLE CHILI)
ON THAT STARRY NIGHT
BECAME THE HOPE OF THE WORLD
AND ITS HOLY LIGHT

GOD GAVE THE MIRACLE OF CHRISTMAS
ON THAT CHRISTMAS EVE
TO THOSE WHO SEE THE CHRISTMAS STAR
AND WHO CAN BELIEVE

SOME SAY ITS JUST FOR CHILDREN
CAUSE CHRISTMAS STARS THEY SEE
ONLY CHILIDREN KNOW THE MIRACLE
ONLY CHILDREN CAN BELIEVE

BUT EVERY YEAR ON CHRISTMAS EVE
THERE IS A CHRISTMAS STAR
THAT SHIES WITHIN THE HEART OF MEN
NO MATTER WHO THEY ARE

SO FIND THE STAR THAT SHINES INSIDE
AND LET YOURSELF BELIEVE
IN THE MIRACLE OF CHRISTMAS
ON THIS CHRISTMAS EVE

Smile, did you write that for one of your plays? It's lovely...

Yes I did write it for a play. Not for a Christmas play though. It was for a play about Belle Starr, the infamous female outlaw of the nineteenth century. At 39 she was released from prison and came to a family Christmas party. In my play Jim July, a 19 yr. old Creek Indian proposed to her at the party.
Because she has just been released from prison she feels that only a miracle could make anyone ever love her again. Jim July sings to her about the miracle of Christmas and proposes. She accepts.
