Di, my father's father died when he was only 3 years old. His mother, his father's sisters and brothers all worked very hard to keep my dad an active part of the family. They remained close until death.

I know a death is not the same as a divorce - the emotions are very different - but I think that most of the time, if there is a will there is a way.

Sadly, the "will" is definitely there, but the "way" is frustrating.

Very hard on our entire family. frown

Divorce is a bummer for everyone in the entire family! I know.
Been there. Done that.

Me too...When Mom and Dad got divorced after 25 years, we lost my Dad because he met and married a witch of a woman with five, (count 'em 5 kids,) and she forbid him to see any of us. He was p-whipped so he didn't. We never saw any of our uncles or aunts or cousins on his side of the family again. Yes, and that was a heartfelt loss for all of us.

Chatty, later on did you ever seek out those aunts/uncles/cousins? Did you know them before the divorce?

Can't answer for Chats, but I never went in search of my ex's
family. His dad and a couple aunts died; they were my favorite
members of that family. Everybody else just became strangers.
Probably wouldn't know 'em if I fell over them.

I stick to my original statement: Divorce has a ripple effect
that crushes all involved!

Yes indeed, Jabber. And forever, too. I've watched so many families be effected. Whether the divorce is "friendly" or not. God HATES divorce and I can clearly see why.

I did try to stay in touch with cousins and a couple aunts and uncles but then I was living out of state so it was difficult. I havren't a clue about any of them except for my cousin Pat and her husband. I stood up for her wedding and we remained friends for all this time. We call and write back and forth but haven't seen them for over 20 years.
