My daughter gave a bridal shower for her best friend last summer. They asked all the guests to email favorite recipes, then compiled them into a cookbook. The bride and groom got a large one, and everyone else received a smaller version along with a Lindt chocolate bar. Everybody loved it, and it wasn't too much work.

Excellent! And different. Did they put the bride's name and date on each book?

oh Jackie...I lOVE the cookbook idea...did your daughter compile each cookbook herself or did she have it professionally printed? I like involving each of the guests...it makes it so personal for the Bride...

Di...I'm going to mention about your Bride/Groom soaps to my girlfriend...even though it's her son who is getting married and not her daughter...she and her husband are paying entirely for the reception...the Bride's parents "aren't interested"...can you imagine that?

I love the cookbook idea too! I'm going to a shower in a couple of weeks for my best friend's daughter, and included in the shower invitations were recipe cards........guests are to put their favorite recipes on the cards to give to the bride-to-be but I love the idea of sharing them with the other guests!!

Actually, the bride's mother did. I believe she compiled it on her computer and might even put the books together herself. She's a teacher who is also incredibly creative. I'm looking at my copy, and the bride and groom's names of on the back cover. The last 2 recipes were for play-dough and bubble stuff from Mom. Wonder if she's anticipating grandchildren!

Jess and Jim paid for their wedding and did everything themselves. She even made her own wedding cake. The ceremony was in a hocky ring -- long story there -- and the favors were hand made chocolates they designed and made in the shape of pucks. I've never been to a wedding that was more fun!

My daughter Laura lives in NY, so

Since the invitations already went out...I asked my girlfriend (the groom's Mom) to get an email list and I'll send out a recipe request this week...The shower is April 2...so that should give me enough time to put a little cookbook together...my daughter suggested we insert a picture of each guest next to their recipe...I'm so excited about this idea Jackie...thanks so much for sharing this with me...

your daughter's friend's wedding sounds wonderful...so unique...the kids today have much more creative ideas when it comes to weddings than we did I think.

They did something similar for my niece but it was a recipe box. They sent all the invitees a blank recipe card to fill out and bring to the shower, then they put all the recipes in a recipe box for my niece. I thought it was a nice idea.
