Hello - I read about this site in our newspaper and thought it was a really good idea to create a gathering place for "boomers". I'm not familiar with forums, so this is a first for me. I presently live with my husband in Richmond, VA. We relocated here in August of 2004 for his work. Since that time his company has reorganized, and he no longer has VA clients, so our house is up for sale and we will be returning to Atlanta when this home sells. (It has been stressful). I work from home doing photo restoration and portrait retouching which I dearly love. We have 2 children in college - a son 19 at UGA, and a daughter 22 at Westminster Choir College in NJ. I have 3 cats - Woody, Archie, and Thumbs (extra toes) who keep me company as I work at the computer. That's all for now..

Hi bek, your in for a real treat. Finding us will make your transition a little easier. We are all here for each other, when needed.

You work from home doing photo restoration and portrait retouching? That sounds like a rewarding profession. Have you been doing it long?
I think we have several Boomer women from GA. Are you from there originally?

Make yourself at home and post away...it gets easier each time. So happy you found us.

Thanks for the welcome Danita and Chickadee - I really appreciate your words of encouragement.

I am happy to be moving back to Atlanta - we lived there for 25 years before moving here, so it really is home. I grew up in Kalamazoo, MI and my husband in Chicago, but we met while working for the same company in Atlanta way back when..

My photo restoration work is very rewarding. I've been working at it since 1999. I have a website which serves as an on-line portfolio. (http://www.ccdesktop.com)I meet a lot of different people and get all kinds of projects. I never get tired of it.

Thanks again for making me feel at home.

Welcome Bek! So happy you found us - this is a VERY wonderful forum full of people you are truly going to enjoy getting to know....as we will be happy to learn all about you....

I giggled when you mentioned "Thumbs".....I have a "Hemingway cat" too - named "Sam". He's my only child (unless you count my husband too!!). They (husbands and extra-toed cats) are a REAL handful don't you think? LOL

Your work sounds really interesting....and I mean that sincerely. A wonderful way to exercise your artistic talents.

Hi Bek! Glad you found us. This place will become a habit for you. It is filled with warm, caring, wonderfully funny, prayerful women who will be there for you.

I lived in Norfolk and Virginia Beach for a couple of years back in the 70's and loved it. Richmond is beautiful. But, for sure not like your home in Atlanta, right?

Hope you like it here and post wherever you are interested in that subject. Welcome.

Thanks to all who posted a welcome message to me. I really appreciate it.

We are going to Atlanta for the weekend to visit friends and to look at houses - we are trying to decide what area of town to settle in when we get back. The housing market is very slow here in Richmond, and we live in the historic district called "The Fan" - because of the way the streets fan out. The house we live in is 100 years old (it has been renovated) - but still takes a certain kind of person I think to want to live in such an old home. We've been on the market since late July. It's hard to be patient, but I guess eventually our buyer will come along.

Have a fine day!

Welcome Bek. Do tell us how you got into this very interesting profession, won't you? I visited both of your pages and had a ball!
