Welcome, Mamacat. I came here with grief, guilt, sadness, depression and also things to be happy about....now I am able to learn that others deal with the same things and it has helped me immeasurably to learn how they deal with them and come out a better person. The support and feedback you receive here is invaluable. I'm so glad you found us!

Dreamer - Thanks for the encouragement. I look forward to learning from these forums how to deal with all these things. By the way, I love your quote from Eleanor. Could it be it takes some of us over 50 years to figure that out??? Thanks again!

Yes, it does take some of us (at least I hope it's taken more of us than just me!) to discover that! I am only now trying to believe that being a raving beauty isn't all my mother said it was...she'd say, "You have great potential, if only you'd....." and then come up with suggestions. Now she wants me to get a face lift. Life is hard!

dreamer..i had to chuckle at your mom saying 'you have potential if only..' our mom used to say: "well, none of you will be raving beauties, but you'll pass in the dark" Always protecting us from the problems of conceit.
i just found this site, it is excellent.
A quiet hug to you Mammacat, may you have a gentle night..... norma

Norma....It's good to be able to chuckle at things like this now....but then it was pretty devastating! Did you and your sisters used to feel that way, or were you tough and able to shrug it off?
Yes, this is an excellent site - welcome!

hi Dreamer.. mom didn't hand out compliments, she was a good mother, but i think if she ever said 'gosh you look pretty' or whatever i'd fall over. Consequently, and unfortunatedly, it took me along time to start complimenting my kids.,,norma

That's interesting. Reactions can vary so tremendously. I was just the opposite with my kids - I wanted them to be confident (but not overly) and have the self-esteem I lacked! I have a feeling your kids and my kids both turned out the same way, regardless of our methods!
I hope you have a comfortable and peaceful night. I've had a tremendous amount of grief recently and am still working through some of it, so I can identify with your feelings. If you want to talk, feel free to send me a private message. I'd love to try to help you, or at just to let you talk it out.

Norma - you are probably wondering at my second paragraph. I apologize for blending you and mamacat - I should not do this (chat in the forums) so late at night!
I do wish you a peaceful and restful night!
