How I wish dogs and humans had the same lifespan. We inherited my MIL's dog. And she's 16 years and not well. She's lost weight. She's losing her hair. She's feeble and shakes when she walks. It makes me sad. Our other dog isn't going to understand when Daisy is no longer with us. And that's sad, too.

When pets get old, they're like humans. They can't move freely. They spill their food. They lose weight. They lose their hair. Their hearing and vision are bad. And it's all just too sad.

Yes. And when my last dog died, I was as sad as if I'd buried a child or spouse. I was unprepared for how much it hurt.
