I am going bald. As an older woman, I never expected to have to deal with this particular problem. No contributing physical factor has been found. This is a scary thing. I never imagined I might look like my brothers. Are wigs the only answer? I cannot afford much.

I am having the same problem. However, I can say I have something to blame - my thyroid and hormone levels. Still haven't done anything about it, other than taking over the counter supplements. I figure if it looked good on my dad, it'll look good on me --- lol, not!

I recently read in a magazine to prevent hair loss, after washing your hair, pour a cup of cider vinegar on your wet hair, leave it on for 5 minutes and rinse. I tried it. It works.

The cider vinegar made the hair texture rather straw-like. The warm beer made it feel smoother. The vinegar does stop much of the hair loss. The beer makes it feel thicker.

Okay. Last time I washed my hair, I put l cup of cider vinegar on the washed hair for five minutes; then, I put 1 cup of warm beer on it for five minutes. Rinsed out each. And then did the usual stuff, coloring and setting. Vinegar does prevent a lot of hair loss. Beer makes it softer and more manageable.

Jabber, I know all about using a beer rinse. But I've never heard that cider vinegar could present hair loss. How does it do that?

Peppermint Patti, I don't think I'll opt for a wig (my hair is thinning too). Maybe a chic head wrap or scarf will become a signature "look" for me...

Anne:

When hair follicles are clogged, bacteria creates crusty flakes on the scalp. If hair is deprived of oil, it falls out and breaks more easily, resulting in hair loss and possibly baldness. Rinsing your scalp with apple cider vinegar and water mixture can rid you of the bacterial causes of hair loss.
