When I was a wee child, a pony I did want,
the girl down the block had one and me she would taunt.

Oh, come ride my pony she would say to me,
but when I got close she'd ride away laughing with glee.

I never got my pony, not even a ride,
I would sit in my room alone so no one knew how I cried.

Then I grew into a young woman and my wants did increase,
this time a red convertible would bring me needed peace.

I worked long and worked hard till the money I'd saved,
at last I would be able to buy what I craved.

On my way to the dealership I rode on the bus,
saw the saddest looking man; under his breath heard him cuss.

I said is there a problem sir, could I be of assistance,
he smiled sadly saying, no thank you. I felt his resistance.

As we rode along we talked, he told me of his peril,
his wife died in childbirth leaving a baby girl, Sheril.

Since he had no money for all the hospital bills,
the State was keeping his child against his will.

The last thing he wanted was to lose his baby too,
after deep soul searching there was but one thing I could do.

When I hoped off the bus and entered my place,
thinking back to handing him that envelope, seeing the smile on his face.

So maybe next year that new red convertible I will buy,
and drive it to Sheril's 1st. birthday bash with a tear of joy in my eyes.

Chatty, is your poem a true story?

It is something I recently thought about again when receiving a note of a first babies birth from a proud and happy grandfather... Sheril, now a lawyer, and husband had a son.

So it is true? Doesn't matter if it isn't, it is still a beautiful story and poem. I was just wondering if you really gave a stranger your car money.

Chatty,
I loved both of your latest poems. They are great.

Edelweiss3,
Your poems is excellent, too.

Poetry soothes the heart, somehow! Doesn't it!

Edelweiss, they say God never gives us more than we can handle, well I believed this man had reached that point. The sorrow in his eyes and in his demeanor was so apparent. First to lose his beloved wife in childbirth, and then to maybe be losing his baby daughter to a cruel system. Oh my God, how could anyone endure that?

I was so fortunate to have what I had, loving parents, so many dear friends and plenty of the things one needs to live comfortably. The red convertible would have been fun sure, but necessary, no!

I was proud and happy to be of help to someone who really needed help from someone right then and there.

Oh and he named his little girl Sheril(Charlene)~~~~~~~.

We stayed in contact over the years mostly via mail as they live in Indiana. Oh and before you ask, he paid back every dime ($4300.00) with interest over the years, even though I never asked for repayment, he insisted, boy did he insist!!!

I never did buy a red convertible, but married a wonderful man many years later (my soulmate) and he owned a bright red, Cadillac Convertible with snowy white interior, which he gave to me as an engagement gift. Now how's that for KARMA???

OOPS! Almost forgot, thank you Jabber, and I am into chapter 15 as of today, moving right along...

Balancing Act

Aren't you thankful,
There's good folks around.
To counter the evil,
Which seems to abound.

We hear 'bout the heartless,
The cruel and selfish, too.
But the goodhearted outnumber,
All those mean-spirited fools.

Media sensationalizes, shocking events,
Yet at times they'll grab a sweeter scent,
And you'll read some melodramatics,
'bout kind, loving servants.

Chatty gave money to a party unknown,
A Biblical concept of seeds well sown.
Like soothing sounds, of a blustery ocean,
I've never heard a more admirable notion.

If every person, 'round this ole earth,
Would enhance the lives others,
And value human worth,
No wars, no killings, no crime, there'd be,
And "love thy neighbor,"
Would become reality.

Thanks Edelweiss,(and Jabber) but I am not as amazing as I once may have been. Age and the reality of self preservation has changed me somewhat. If however I did have all the wealth I wanted, no one I know would do without. I still believe in spreading the wealth around so others benefit too. That will never change in me...it's who I am!

Hickory dickory dock,
smashed my alarm clock with a rock.

I hate when I get awaken too early,
the rest of the day I am surly.

If you look at me wrong,
your head I might just bong.

Now hope you know this isn't really a rhyme,
just trying to make up some time.

Putting what was missing back into the forum,
takes time and requires a certain decorum.

There I did it, its done and I'm glad,
does anyone think I me a pest, or just bad?
