What happens to fat that is lost in dieting is like what happens to the gas in a truck. The fat in your body is burned to fuel your bodily functions just as gasoline is used to fuel the engine of a truck. A truck usually has two tanks and if the first one runs out, it automatically transfers over to the other and burns the fuel from it.

Well, if your body burns all the fuel in the food you have taken in, it transfers over to the 'second tank', (i.e. the fat stored in your body) and it burns that as fuel.

All of the activities of your body, including breathing, digesting, heart beating, etc. burn fuel, and of course exercising burns the most. And the more difficult the exercise, the more you burn. Physical exercise causes your body to burn more efficiently so it's a double benefit.
When you have burned all the fuel in your food, your body begins to burn your stored fat.
