Gimster, thanks you too! The fact that my husband still had HAIR is the telling part LOL! And those muttonchop sideburns! Then, he hasn't gained an ounce in 31 years and I'm about 20 lbs. heavier.

I saved my dress for many years in hopes that one day I'd pass it on to a daughter. Of course, I didn't have kids so that plan fell through.

Then about 7 or 8 years ago, I read about a company that was reselling old wedding gowns and giving all the profits to help women with cancer who couldn't afford treatment. I donated the gown to them. I'm glad it went to a good cause.

Wow, Meredith...what a fantastic idea and a very special one (to donate your gown to such a good cause). And ya know what? Many times a daughter never wants to wear her mother's wedding dress. It's never worth having your heart set on that anyway. Meredith, Louisa, Dee....I'm so happy you loved posting your photos....you are all beautiful brides....if I get brave enough I might post my 1972 wedding photo (of just me)...hehehehe

Hello all you beautiful woman! It's a blast seeing you with your Hubby's all smiles and pretty.
I got to do some digging to find a good picture. Sadly I wasn't allowed a church wedding, because my husband was divorced...so no bridal picture of me. That was a blow to my dreams...but that was just one day in time, and we've stuck together through thick and thin now 33 years.

LJ, I'd love to see that 50s photo. Before seeing Meredith's date, I guessed late 70s. Meredith, my husband wore a very similar tux to my prom in 1976. Same lapels and same baby blue color. Polyester, right? You look adorable in that look.

Louisa, the date with your photo says January, 2008 so I thought you were dressed for a formal occasion and was wondering why you had flowers. Sorry about that.

Hannelore, I remeber those church rules from the 70s. Was that a Catholic church? Just wondering. We wanted to have an outdoor wedding and the priest said we had to be married in a church. So we said our formal vows in the church with only immediate family where I cried my eyes out as I said my vows. Then we went to our outdoor wedding with over 200 guests. I breezed right through the vows. No one knew about the church wedding except for the ones who attended the church.

I have a friend who confessed to the priest that her husband stayed with her when he visited from out of town. He told her he couldn't marry them. Sad, huh?

Oh I remember those rigid rules. I had come from a protestant background and my husband came from a Roman Catholic church....an Italian one, no less. We were going to be married in my church and yet we had to see his priest a few times. It was horrible! I was told I was on my way to hell and my husband-to-be was chastised for marrying a "pagan." In the end, we had to sign a paper for the priest that said we'd bring up any children in the Catholic Church. We had just one child and had her christened at 3 months old in my husband's church with that priest. After that she never stepped foot in a Catholic church except for weddings and funerals. My mother-in-law was horrified and I never heard the end of it....imagine the stuff we went through with her when my husband entered seminary to become a Baptist minister?!

This was from my wedding in 1972...it's too bad I don't have the full length photo...my daughter has the wedding album. The lace on the sleeves and front were also along the bottom. It is sooooo 70ish and victorian. My gown had been featured in Bride's magazine that month and I was so proud. But now looking back, I'd have never chosen one like that!!

The second photo was the little private ceremony we had in September 1977 when I married him for the second time.

And here's another from wedding #3, but only second (and last!) husband.....here we had our wedding dance to "At Last" and Frank is singing it to me....ahhhh, so sweet!
And, as you can see, I'm going "mmm...mmm....mmmmmmm"

Ladyjane, the first picture of you is like an old Italian painting of a Madonna. You married your first husband twice, and then got divorced? What a whirlwind relationship.
Thank God you found someone who values you for what you are.

Yes, Dotsie, that was the Catholic Church that forbade us to marry in church. Infact in their eyes I committed a capital sin for marrying a divorced man, and therefore was excommunicated from the church, despite the fact that my husband was divorced way before I even met him.

So this is one of the reasons why I have problems with the Catholic religion. It’s not really because I don’t want them; … they don’t want me.

Yes, I sure did. I married him in '72, divorced in late '75, remarried in Fall '77 and divorced in June '03. How dumb, huh?
