boomers,
I know 2 so-called "freebees" that are very expensive. Don't believe radio or internet ads that say (free), because they cost large sums of money! Radio ads about getting rid of wrinkles are NOT free; and, they're a pain in the "you know" to cancel. Same for "free" credit score ratings. They're NOT free; and, you have to keep following up to make sure the charges have been refunded, as promised! These ads should be catagorized as "false advertising." But they are NOT.
The BBB ought to climb all over these con games!
Prayers,
b. rose

Have any other boomers been charged for something advertised as free? I'll bet these cons rake in millions of dollars from unsuspecting folks. What say you?????

I believe what Princess Lenores friend is saying, is he doesn't like plastic toys because they are NOT biodegradable, which means they will remain in the land fill for eternity when thrown away. That is the meaning of non-biodegradable...

bonnie, I haven't been charged for anything that is FREE, but I don't apply for many FREE things for that reason. There is often a catch that is hidden.

You should never have to give credit card information is something is FREE. Obviously...

Chatty,
I switched subjects here and don't know why. You're right about plastics being non-biodegradable. But then again they bury steel drums filled with all sort of toxins. And you have to wonder why? I didn't mean to get off the central issue. Sorry!
Dotsie,
Credit was involved because of "free sample" shipping. But companies try to hook you in before the trial period is up. Suppositively, there are 30 days to decide whether the product lives up to the hype. But they bill prospective customers in 25 days, and hope you won't notice.
In that "credit rating" incident, the report is free but the score release is costly. They say it'll be $1.00 but charge up to $29.95 a month. It's a huge hoax. I just thought if I shared the experiences, other boomers would avoid the distorted bait.

No problem Bonnie...and all too often we as consumers find out our meaning of free and the merchants meaning of free can be two totally different concepts.

So with the trial, you give your credit card number? I'd say that's a signal of worse things to come. Once they ahve your cc number, they will try anything.

Well Dotsie,
Apparently, everything's a scam; but, who knew. The trial is free but the shipping costs. There's a way to pay for stuff on the Net by using an instant card number. However, I haven't taken the time to learn the process, yet. We have the safeguards, as far as the card is concerned. But once they get you hooked, then they add unforeseen charges. I managed to get it all refunded, but that was a pain the neck. Misleading advertisements should be cut off at the roots. Everytime I hear one of those ads on the radio, I cringe. It's a way to get big bucks out of unsuspecting folks. And that ticks me off!!! When you hear, FREE, don't believe it! It's a con!

Ack, sorry to hear this. I guess it's rare that anything is free these days!
