I decided that my step-granddaughter, Grace, will call me Nunna.

I never did like the "grandma" title, since I'm technically not of blood relation. And we, as kids, called both of our grandmother's Nunna. So, since I'm the only Nunna, I won't need to be "Grandma Di"...I'm just plain Nunna!

(I think this term of endearment was from my Yugoslavian descendants)

Nunna, I read an article recently about how boomers are changing everything...including what our grandkids call us. Them majority of boomers don't like the typical gran, nana, etc.

Yeah, I think it's because we don't "feel or look" like the grandma's we have stereotypically envisioned...with hair buns, long dresses and canes!!

And thank God for that!

Twice this week I heard of two boomer grandmothers being called Gigi, or GG. The one told me it's for great grandmother. Not as in great-grandmother, but the fact that's she's great at being a grandmother.

I have a friend who's name is Nancy. Her grandchildren combined the two "Grandmother with Nancy" and came up with Grancy.

I love it! Trust me on this one, THEY will call you whatever they can pronounce. As I said, mine knows who we're talking about when we say, "Go give it to Big Mamma" for instance, but she calls me GAN-MAW. And get this, I call her Beed-A-Botter. Don't ask me, it just came to me one day. She loves it.

I'm just happy to be called no matter by what name...I run the gambit from Granma from the youngest boy, Gram from the oldest boy and 'hot stuff' from my darling granddaughter who is 21 now. Shes a trip....My son and DIL both call me mom....I love all my names.

BTW, Nunna rhymes with "Bubba". My DH thought it was "noona' so I needed to clarify!

I called my grandmother, shorty. She was barely 4'11" tall. She loved it.
