Okay, my husband thinks I'm nuts, but I do some kind of off the wall things every once in a while. Yesterday I was waiting at the grocery store deli for some hot chicken, and two teenage boys were down at the bakery counter asking for a free cookie. (They give free samples)

The boys were dressed like ragged little skateboarders, but they were being very polite. The bakery lady was giving them a hard time, saying they weren't shoppers so they couldn't have a cookie.

So I got my chicken and strolled over to the bakery. I came up behind the two boys, put my hand on the shoulder of one, and said "Are you guys done getting your cookies yet?"

The boys managed to contain their shock, and the bakery lady got all flustered because their "mom" really was in
the store. She handed them the cookies, they both said "Thanks mom!" and I told them they better meet me out front when I was done shopping. Off they went, and off I went, and I never saw them again.

I thought it was kind of fun, and I'm sure the boys won't forget it any time soon. Anyone else do nutty things like this every once in a while?

Kathy, that is great!! And as a mother of a ragged skateboarder, I thank you!!!
You are not nuts or off your rocker. You are quick on your feet and funloving. I do try to do stuff like that, but can't think of anything right now!

Kathy,
I'm sending you a crown hun...that's one of the sweetest things I've heard lately. Now don't make me get all gushy and nice....but girl, coming from a Mother's heart...you're da bomb...my kids say that's a good thing, too. Bless you honey...

Sometimes people forget to use kindness and compassion in their service jobs...maybe you were her wakeup call? For whatever reason, your heart led you and God looked down and smiled.

I think what you did was wonderful!!! Heck, that woman ought to have realised one cookie or two would not bring the business down. From one mother to another, I think we do watch out for children. A boy of 11 only had enough for a bag of potato chips at the shop yesterday and wanted a drink so badly as well. Paid for his Dr Pepper and felt good for him. My son sometimes object when I do these things but, I think these sort of things are little taps on our maternal shoulders. One thing for sure is that, if my son were in the same position, I would be happy for a stranger to do the same. Pay forward!!! Those kids would definitely do a kind gesture along the way because someone did it for them.
